I'm happy to find this forum....I've been struggling with weight all my life.....Was just diagnosed with sleep apnea in 2011 and with treatment I now awaken feeling refreshed....for the first time in years. I now need to work to change the eating habits that developed as a coping mechanism to stress and depression. I'm going to retire this year and view this as MY YEAR for change. It won't be easy....and I'm so glad to find this supportive sitr.

Hello everyone,As a dieter who has tried many weight loss programs, I know there is no magic program out there.  I recently lost weight on WW.  The hard part is keeping it off.  I, too, love sweets and went off track over the holidays.  I simply cannot have sweets in the house. As a single, I can limit their presence. My goal is to eat only when I am hungry and stop when I am no longer hungry, not when I am "full". Healthy eating to all!

My sleep doc recently said he didn't understand why 'such a little girl should have sleep apnea". Then he looked in my nose and throat and said I have small passages. So just loosing weight does not assure no sleep apnea. I am not overweight because I have been a member of Overeaters Anonymous for 5 years. We use AA's 12 steps to achieve abstinence from compulsive eating, not a diet and calories club, only requirement for membership is the desire to stop eating compulsively (i.e. when your not hungry). You can find a meeting near you at OA.org.

AGH. I feel like a fat blob. I am literally the biggest I have ever been in my life and I have been pretty big before. I had my thyroid removed in January so I'm pretty certain that isn't helping but I've always, since grade school, had a weight problem. I don't want that surgery. To me, that really isn't even an option. I can, or could, lose weight pretty easily before thyroid surgery. I've tried it for a week or two at a time since then and don't see any results so I just give up. I wish there was a medicine or an herb that made food taste awful so I wouldn't want to eat.

Here is a great trick to keep from over eating. About 30 minutes before dinner 8 to 12 oz water and a low or no sodium rice cake. You feel full already and your will power will get you through the dinner.

Sleepcarol To help break that sugar habit try Agave nectar it has a low glycemic index and it taste great. You can use it to sweeten drinks or as a honey sub. It comes from the same plant as Tequia so oyu know its good. I tried the pink stuff-blue stuff and the worst of all steevia (so gross). Agave is not calorie free so use it only when needing a fix.

Well here I am back to needing to do something about my weight gain. I have gained back all that I lost previously. :(. Work was sooooo stressful that my ulcers started acting up again, along with my nerves being totally fried. I finally went and asked the doc for something for my nerves and she was stunned as I have never been one that needed that sort of thing. I ended up filling the script -- but never took them -- I think they served as a security blanket for me.

Work is still stressful and although we are out on summer break I ended up having to change rooms and what a mess!! I have worked for over a week getting things in order and still am only partially done!! Will be glad when it is all done and put away!!

I am needing to go back and start from square one. My problem lately is that I have zero energy. Taking the trash out to the curb, sweeping, picking up around the house, etc. tires me out. I am thinking along the lines I probably need a good physical to rule out any type of problems and start eating more sensibly. I have gotten into the habit of eating one meal a day. I tell myself that by only eating a meal once a day is cutting out unnecessary calories and am having trouble getting over this hump. I think in my mind that I am trying to justify my snacking by thinking that since I "am saving calories" it is okay to snack.

I am a sugar addict if there is such a thing. I crave the sweets like a junkie looking for their next fix.

Any good ways of breaking the sugar habit?

I got off the Vegan bandwagon for a couple of weeks. The results are staggering. There has been a 9 pound weight gain and I feel awful.
The energy that was gained during the Vegan change has been lost. This is enough for me to go back and remain vegan or at least Vegan-Vegetarian.

Wheatberry Salad with Stawberries, Cherries, and Mint
1 cup wheatberries (available at natural foods stores)
1 can or 1 cup dried black eyed peas
1/2 cup diced stawberries
1/2 cup thinly sliced red onion
1/2 cup dried cherries
1/2 cup chopped mint
5 tablespoons olive oil
5 tablespoons fresh lemon juice, or to taste
1 tablespoon honey mustard (may use white wine vinager infused with mint leaves)
freshly cracked pepper, to taste
In a pot of boiling salted water, cook the wheat berries for 1 hour, or until they are tender, and drain them. (At this stage, the wheatberries can be stored for several days in a covered container until ready to use.) In a small bowl, mix lemon juice, olice oil, salt, pepper, and mustard. Whisk to combine, and adjust as necessary. In a large bowl stir together the wheat berries and all other ingredients. Toss to combine. Serve cold or room temperature.

3 tsp ground flax seed
Fresh pressed garlic 2 cloves
Ground black pepper to taste
1 cup cooked drained pinto beans
1 cup cooked drained black bean
½ cup whole kernal corn
1 medium jalepeno peer fine chopped
1 small course chpped Onion
3 tsb corn starch
Mix all ingredients and form into patties.
Refridgerate or freeze until needed.
Thaw and add 2 tsp olive oil to cast iron skillet. Brown patties on each side for about( if thawed) 3 minutes or cooked and heated through.
You may use these for Hambugers, or meat sub and serve with any veggies. You may back them but wrap in foil they tend to be dry in oven.
