Fired by Doc
My old Sleep Doctor fired me. I just saw the new one yesterday and then got a certified letter from the former doc today releasing me from his practice for being beligerant to his staff. I did not mean to be belligerant, I was just trying to get copies of medical records they were refusing to send me.
I'm not proud of how this happened, but am glad I made the decision to switch before I got his letter.

So you got fired for asking (in a non-belligerant way) for something they didn't want to give you!! Best rid Mary, and don't let it get you down. You're doing the right thing to keep your head held high!

he probably did you a favor perhaps now the new doc can help with your proper dialogue as you now have the tools
i am confident you are NOT i say NOT beligerant as you are an inspiration to all who lives you have touched except those silly doctors

No one should be denied their right to their medical records, no matter what the reason ! I agree with xxx, you probably wouldn't have been happy there anyway. If the staff is rude that says much about the entire practice and doctor.
I was simply not impressed or happy with my first sleep doc so I went and found another. The fact that the staff was unpleasant is not surprising either, some people just don't like their jobs so they take it out on their patients. At my first sleep doc's appt the office staff didn't even greet me. I was their first appt at 7:30am. I waited 1hour 55 mins to see the doc.
Good for you Mary, take a stand and don't back down. You'll find the right match, it just takes time.

I think it might be good things happened the way it did. You have a new doctor and affimation that you made the right decision. I once had a sleep doctor not only refuse to give the records to me but also refused requests from my internist and my neurologist. I finally received them only after I contacted the State of Michigan. They told me the wording to use in a letter to him. The letter told him that he had 10 days to send me the reports or I would file a compaint with the Department of Liscensing and Registration.. It worked. My doctors were also happy to know of a sleep doctor they should never refer a patient to him.

To be more fair, I and the new Dr. did receive some records, just not the latest Office visits which gave the rational for my prescription for 30/25 and any recordes from the Sleep Lab. The records I did get gave a physical he performed over a year ago and a new H&P, and contained mistakes. For example it seemed he was treating me for OSA when I may have been having centrals. Again, the lack of documentation made things very murky for the new doc, who essentially has to start over.

The patient has the right to review the records pertaining to his/her medical care and to have the information explained or interpreted as necessary, except when restricted by law.
You should download a copy of the Patient Bill of Rights and and send it to them.
In the future ask for a coy of the facilities policy and procedure regrading patient request and reivew of medical records.
and a little sack of doggy crap left at their door step might be fun too. JUST KIDDING sorta

LOL. I believe I have the sanitized versions, since they are so imcomplete. The lab would not release anything, as they made mistakes on both studies I had there. Pat, glad to know how to handle it in the future. I hope it's never necessary to fight so hard again.
