What AHI, AI, HI indices are we looking to attain?

Hi All,

I'm just wondering what numbers are realistic to attain? I've been getting AI fairly low, most nights <1. The HI is higher, though, with numbers typically in the 4.5-7.0 range.

Does CPAP help HI?

I've been practicing relaxation breathing for years, and I'm able to slow it down a lot when resting. Could that be why HI is high? (High HI!)

I'm going to call the DME today. I haven't heard from anyone (doctor, sleep clinic, DME) since I started CPAP about 2 weeks ago. I don't recall if anyone said they'd follow up...

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the reply.

I've got my Resmed set to fied pressure, though it's capable of automatic operation.

I've only been using it for 12 days, so I'm still new at this!

I'm going to a titration study in a couple of weeks, so I'm hoping to get a more accurate recommendation of pressure setting.

I'm assuming that, after the titration study, we may be making some adjustments.

I don't plan on making any adjustments on my own at this point, even with the doctor's input. Things seem to be working well at this point, other than the higher HI numbers, so I'm happy to leave it as is.

I'm curious, though, if the numbers collected by the Resmed and transmitted to the DME are more accurate and/or more detailed than what I can see on my own...
How did they determine your set pressure if you haven't had a titration study?

I know many times I have read that 10 is a good number for many users, but there is so much variance I would think if you have an auto machine your doctor would have used it in auto mode to get a more realistic pressure range. That way during the titration study they would have something to work with and probably narrow the range quickly.

Do you know what your pressure setting is?
