MRSA is not "was raging" it "is raging" and also be aware that a number of Bret's products are not "essential oils" but "fragrances"-- chemical concoctions.

Well then, I guess it's a good thing I'm not actually angry. You guys are having a hard time sleeping as it is.

It's all about individual preference in my experience. Many purveyors of essential oils market them as having some sort of *magic* or *mystical* properties (as in, a certain essential oil will cure a disease, help you sleep, etc.). While there is some medical evidence that lavender and other essential oils may actually have a therapeutic effect on sleep, that's not the focus. The idea is simply to introduce something pleasant into the therapy. If you don't care for a given smell, it's not going to be pleasant. If you like a given smell, introducing it into your therapy will provide a benefit.
The limbic system (home of emotions) is bombarded by stimulus from CPAP therapy. The same part of the brain is also directly connected to the sense of smell. So a pleasant smell will tend to calm things down and provide a pleasant sensory input to compete for your attention (it's called "cognitive distraction"). It's not medicine or magic--just a little trick to help improve your emotional state / mood and give you something pleasant to associate with therapy (which is otherwise dominated by negatives for sure). Glad to hear it's providing some benefit.
By the way as the product manufacturer I would appreciate it very much if people on the boards would help support the sponsor and buy product from the apnealife.com website. Mike works very hard to provide the forum and deserves all the support he can get!
