Hi Vendetta--I too am diagnosed severe. I'm about 11 months behind you in treatment. Still adjusting to CPAP.
I have NO info about what you describe. My first reaction is I wonder if it's some kind of autonomic body response because your body is used to sleeping with a mask for so long. Kind of a biological warning of danger, if you will. Do you have a nasal mask that comes close to your lips?
They've told me that I should wear my mask any time I sleep, including sleeping in my chair. It might be kinda interesting for you to try wearing the mask when you nap and see if the same thing happens. I'm thinking maybe it won't, but it might be worth a try....again, I'm no expert. That was just my gut response when I read your post. You're bound to get more replies on here--maybe not till in the a.m., so hang tight and see what some of these very knowledgeable folks have to say. I'll be interested in knowing what you find out!!
Susan McCord :-)
Thanks Susan! I am anxious to see what this site has to offer. My doctor is very informative and will give me what information I need when I ask him, and thankfully he is not ever in a hurry when he is with patients. I forget to ask him these things when I am in the office.
I do have a nasal mask that sits on my nose and my upper lip when I sleep, I also occasionally use a full face mask when my allergies are acting up and I cant breathe through my nose. Since I have been on CPAP though I have been sleeping incredibly well and almost feel as if I am addicted to having my mask on! If I should fall asleep in my chair its one of those things not "Planned." If I had a hose that was about 20 feet long I could use it when I am in watching television or whatnot, I just would hate to fight with the thing while I was asleep.... :)
thanks for your answer on this and I look forward to hearing what others have to say on this too.
