POLL -- Would a "swap" group be beneficial?
I have thought about setting up a group where members could swap equipment or masks.
If you are self-pay you almost always get more than one size cushion with your masks. You could swap the unused ones for the size you use.
You could swap masks that didn't work for you for one you want to try.
Other pieces of equipment could be traded or swapped as well. Example -- I might have an extra hose cover or bottle of Pur-Sleep and would like to trade it for something I could use.
Possiblities are endless as to what could be traded or swapped for the most part.
I think the important thing would be to make sure you are completely honest in your description of the item you are wanting to swap. As far as liability goes, when Mike gets back he can give us some advice.

My DME told me they have some disinfectant that kills everything that they use on equipment...don't know what it is nor whether it's available to the public but I can find out.

I'm guessing that the liability thing can be gotten around. I mean EBAY isn't liable for what it's members do/sell to each other and they make it clear that they are only providing the platform...
And in terms of cleanliness and disinfecting, I don't think that they threw out the ill filling mask that the sleep lab used during my titration. I also think that most germs only live for so long...I am sure we could research some solutions that are reasonable to ensure that we weren't passing along infectious diseases...

I know that when I had my titration study I was a little early and the girl was finishing up the "cleaning" of several cpap masks. Meaning that they reuse them.
www.cpapauction.com allows the sale of masks, etc. and its sister site www.cpaptalk.com allows the exchange of masks, etc. on their site. The have whole threads devoted to these types of exchanges. They, also, allow posters to offer trials of masks where one poster may have a mask that didn't work for them but they are willing to allow others to use the mask for a short duration to see if the mask would work before purchasing one. That is how I found my Headrest.
If members didn't want to participate they wouldn't have to, it is strictly volunteer and that is why I doubt if the liability would be much of an issue.
As far as bacteria goes, if you go out in public you are exposing yourself to all kinds of viruses, bacteria, etc. Even in your own home, there are a multitude of breeding grounds where bacteria and germs reside.

I've already got a spare part for my nasal mask, never been used. It came with one medium and one large insert, and I'm using the medium...

Sleepy Carol, I'm all for it. How will we handle it if I see a mask or part I want, but have nothing to swap or trade?

Sometimes we can trade "other" stuff for the item, kind of like a barter system. Say I have an xyz mask that I didn't like and you have a mno mask that you don't like but is my favorite mask why your favorite mask is the xyz we swap.
You might pm the person and ask if something couldn't be worked out. There are possibilities, just have to be inventive. I know some forum members traded some of Bret's Pur-Sleep for stuff, etc. You might even ask if you could pay them for the items and the cost.
