Thanks Mary. I have tried adjusting the humidifier. I am just wondering if the machine is just too forceful with the air. I didn't have this problem with the other machines, and I don't have it when I turn it off, so some how it is machine related. I hate to try those mouthwashes. It seems like I am going to need a bigger medicine cabinet for all this junk.
Bottom line, I just don't like it! It is so uncomfortable, that it wakes me up.

Sometimes adjusting your humidity up or down (usually up) will help with the dry mouth. There are also products on the toothpaste aisle made for people with dry mouths- toothpastes, mountwashes and gels.

Peggy, Is it safe to assume you are using a nasal mask or nasal pillows and not a full face mask? You need to be 100% sure you are not mouthbreathing when using a nasal interface because the pressure would be lost and you likely would have breathing events as if you were not treated. It is difficult to be sure you are not mouthbreathing because you are asleep when it happens. It took my wife awakening one night and observing the air flowing from my mouth to make me aware of mouthbreathing.
Now that important caution out of the way, let me tell you how I get excellent relief from dry mouth.
I found a way to use Biotene Dry Mouth Moisturizine Gel, http://www.biotene.com/Products/Gel.aspx , to prevent and relieve dry mouth. I place a small dab of the gel on the tip of my tongue and then place it in my gum over the upper central incisors. When you remove your tongue leave the dab of gel up high in the gum. Be careful to leave it there and not suck it out or touch it with the tip of the tongue. In this position the gel will gradually seep into the mouth over several hours. I have found this can help to moisten my mouth for four to five hours.
Note that this is a different application than the manufacturer's directions. Using the manufacturer's directions relief only lasts a short time.

I am 100% positive I am not mouth breathing. I just think it is this machine blasting so forceful. I just hate to use that Biotene. And mainly because I don't like to use anything that is not natural, BUT, in this case, I am going to break down and give it a try.

I found a setting on the machine, I am assuming it is sea level...anyways it was at 1500 and so I changed it to 3000. Will see if that helps any tonight.
The whole purpose of a sleep machine is defeated if your mouth is so dry it hurts and wakes you up. And I just don't want to have to use artificial products until everything else has been tweaked and fiddled with!

I stick with my first reply. This is superstition, quackery, and a scam by those selling equipment.

Sounds like you may have a leak, probably mouth, but maybe interface. Many people have an intermittant mouth leak and the only thing they feel is a dry mouth. Also, you mentioned in a response on Dec 10 that "this machine is blasting" . Most of the time, the feeling that the air is "blasting" is due to the machine trying to make up for a leak, to keep your CPAP level at the proper level. Most people that have a mouth leak don't realize it until they go back into the sleep lab in despiration, and an astute tech notices that the leak reading on the equipment is higher that it should be. Many times, the tech cannot see the leak over the video system, but needs to go into the room and visualize the lips slightly open and a little leak is present. Not big enough to make any sound or wake them up. I have found with my patients, many times a chin strap lightly applied will take care of the issue. However, sometimes anatomical issues prevent even a tight chin strap from fixing this issue. In this case, a good fitting full face mask is necessary.
Sometimes a leak from a poor fitting mask will cause the air going through the humdifier too fast and not pick up enough moisture, and you will get a dry mouth. The machine will also try to make up for the leak and "blast" the air.
My suggestion, if you have a chin strap, try it moderately tightened. If your symptoms go away, you fixed it. If not, arrange for someone to check on you several times during the night. They should look for a slight parting of your lips with a small amount of air coming out between them. This may only happen during REM, so it is necessary to check about every 30 minutes or so all night. If you can't arrange for this, perhaps trying a good fitting full face mack will fix it, or you might need to consider spending the night a night at the sleep center. If you do this, be sure to discuss with the tech what is happening at home and also give the ok to try a full mask should a chin strap not fix it.
If you have a mask leak, either tightening it slighly or a better fitting mask may be necessary. One note, when trying on new masks, it is necessary to have a machine hooked up and running at your pressure to be sure of the fit.
Once the leak is fixed, your dryness will go away, and you will also not feel the air "blasting".
