Okay, maybe I am missing something here. The mask should fill up with air -- if it doesn't then treatment wouldn't be effective. What is their pressure range? If it is very low, that might indicate that they need it raised. Many find that when apap's are set wide open -- say from 4 to 20 that they are unable to breath at the low pressure.
i think that it is an obstruction and a need to consult about tempoarily changing the pressure downward until the obstruction is more comfortably delt with
