Should CPAP Be Used for Daytime Naps
I'm asking this question, as one of my customers has asked me it? Thankfully, I hardly need to nap during the day since my best friend came into my life (CPAP) LOL! However, on the odd occasion I have needed extra sleep, I've always used it. I always assumed CPAP should be used at all times when sleeping, and have read several reports to say this is the case. What is the general view of you kind knowledgeable people?

I've always heard wear it everytime you sleep, even during naps. If your customer has a data capable machine they can check after their nap to see if they had any apnea incidents (provided the machine data has rolled over from the previous night and is starting a new cycle).

Thanks Mary. I should have also said that it was the sleep clinic that told her she didn't need to. However, we're in the UK so not as knowledgeable as you in the States. She doesn't have a data capable machine.

Sleep apnea happens during naps as well as at night; I would never sleep, including naps, without my CPAP.

It's interesting that in a Multiple Sleep Latency Test you don't wear CPAP. I imagine it's a real bother for the techs with an inexperienced user having to put that mask on for a 20 minute nap and perhaps having a patient who couldn't go to sleep right away because of the strangeness of the mask.
Sleep is just bigger, more profitable business here than in the UK.

Sleep w/o CPAP for apneans is untreated sleep. If you are going to sleep and are an apnean you should use your CPAP. I am going to take a nap right now - w/my BPAP.
