Healthcare Reform Bill
Let's pop the cork on this bad boy. I think that the bill has alot of good qualities. I am not to happy about insurance now being mandatory. What do you guys think?
Does anyone have a copy of the amended bill?

As an Australian, I am surprised that the US still does not have universal health care. All of the rest if the advanced world does.
I am also surprised at the cost of health there. The Australian ambasador to the US, Kim Beasley, fell on ice and injured his knees. Someone costed his treatment and compaired it with the equivalent cost in Australia. The Australian cost was a quarter of the US cost. It is perhaps for your government to inquire into this.
In Australia there is one government owned health insurer. I guess that has been a check and balance on the privately owned funds. Also, in Australia, there are labour union owned co-operaitive health insurers. I belong to one of these because the benefite are higher and the cost is lower.

This debauchery is the worse thing that has happened to the United States for 200 years. Government takeover of anything spells disaster. The health care system needs an overhaul, but this is definitely not the way to do it. Free handouts = more loss of freedoms. There will be some drastic changes made in Congress November 10, 2010, and again in 2012. Watch and see, the majority of "we the people" don't like this latest "change". Democrats, duck and cover, and polish up your resumes, the unemployment line is long out here.

That is certainly the truth, Robert, the thing that immediatley comes to mind is people who are on disability, or retirement and who don't purchase a medicare advantage plan, and those who continually use the ER as a PCP and are
lost to follow up on chronic conditions because of denial or lack of motivation/insurance. What man who takes BP meds and experiences ED takes the time needed to work with a doctor to find a drug that works (could be multiple visits)?. The same with women who don't have the patience to follow up on chronic health problems. These things cost us a lot of money. Probably very few (could be an unfair assumption on my part) gunshot victims have insurance. Society has got to change to an attitude, as someone else said, of get healthy, keep healthy. Probably one of the biggest programs that costs medicare and medicaid dollars is the availability of kidney dialysis to anyone with kidney failure, It pays 80% ( dialysis units usually pick up insurance costs for the othe 20% or write it off). The idea in the beginning was to make people productive again so they could go back to work. However though come continue to work, most don't and the number of people past retirement age has swelled the ranks of dialysis patients. Private insurance to take over this burden from Medicare (and I don't know enough about the bill to say this may be possible) would ease the burden of Medicare expentitures. The biggest thing is society has got to change to an attitude of wellness, instead of acute care for chronic conditions.

One more thing, as a 57 year old on Disability for mainly neurological conditions, I'd be lost without my Medicare. I do pay $258 dollars a month for my coverage, cheap at the price, and fall into the donut hole early each year due to the costs of drugs not available as generic. It costs me $4,450 out of pocket to get out of that. I could go to the VA (my eligibility has not been established yet for this year) who have in their in their genosity taken care of me before, but it still comes out of the public pocket. (I also have disability insurance from my job, which ends in 2017- I paid for that for years). I am not a malingerer or a slacker. I thank the government for my Medicare , but most of all, you who
pay for it.

The republicans did so much better before Obama. Our problems our not a democrat problem. America's worst problem is the 2 party system that has divided our entire country. This system has been a pimple on the american ass since inception. Right now if a democratic rep said I am going to lunch a republican would scream foul play. Then the media would post the restaurant bill, and interview all parties involved. Regardless of which party was in office healthcare reform was going to be the issue.
The republicans refusal to help resolve problems are going to hurt them more than help them in the upcoming elections. We are also quick to forget that it was republican decisions that got us here in the first place. It was a combination of Nixon, Reagon, and the Bush's that sold us out to the corps and put us in this situation. All republicans. They are just better at averting our attention. Meanwhile China is lending us money to fight wars we don't belong in, and supporting our enemies at the same time. What is the chinese word for idiocracy?
Don't even get me started on the teabaggers. This political movement is being built on the ideals and dreams of our founding fathers, and the american revolution. They scream "no socialism!" Our founding fathers were socialist. Does anyone else see the irony in that.

2000+ pages, who can read all of that? All words are open to interpretation. And enveryone has an interpretation that fits there needs. Only the courts will make final determinations on these 2000 + pages. Interpret all you want but in reality, it won't make a damn when all the lawyers tell you what it really means. No bill of this magnitutde should be passed in a rush such as this one was. One page will say one thing and 300 pages later it will change that pages meaning. This bill should have been about 20 bills all interpreted before a vote should have been even considered. Our fore fathers and mothers are turning over in there graves! We may get lucky and someone will have interpreted what this bill really says before 2018, when or if it is ever fully inplemented. I am non partisan and all you representatives and senators sould be ashamed of yourselves!

If the Republicans in Congress and the House had gotten off their mean, petty, spiteful, vicious, collective a$$e$ and provided reasonable and productive contributions to tackling healthcare reform, it could have been passed PROPERLY, as several different bills as you suggest and w/o being tied to college tuition funding, etc. It "could" have been a good reform, but the Republicans gave the Democrats no choice but to put it thru the way they did. Now it needs to be improved and clarified and that is going to be hard to do just by its sheer size alone. To say nothing of the continued stupid Republican opposition.
Congress has been working a year on this health care bill.

I could go on for reams about so much that you wrote in your post but I will spare you and everyone else and briefly say only that the democrats including this administration are entirely beholding to the financial and health care industries - so they don't get off the hook either - but, of course, you did blast the 2-party system in your post.
