About some of my favorites sleep post. I have read many studies on sleep. As well I have been involved, or eavesdropped on a great number of wonderful sleep conversations. One of my favorite theories involves sleep deprivation and creativity. I probably will not do it justice but here goes. Basically this theory states that the longer you stay awake, the more creative you get. The reason for this is that most of us are either right brain or left brain thinkers when we are fully coherent or rational. As we become more and more sleep deprived the lines between the brains hemispheres begin to disappear. Right brain thinkers become left brain thinkers, and vise versa.

The following post is one that I found while scrounging for sleep knowledge on binary. Keep in mind that while binary is a great place for anyone interested in sleep, it is not always pt friendly.

This is one of my favorite post ever:

you mentioned some time you do your best work at or inbetween 3-5 am with other sleep techs

are they in the same time frame as you. eg do they live in the usa and in the same time zone

like i am 7 hours ahead of you it was 8 untill you move the clocks forward. in the uk we put the clocks forward on the 28 of this month,
I agree with you completely RL. One day I hope to do more sleep research. Hopefully I will not have to be the testee. Was it not for my work, or family obligations I would not put myself through the strain of a 24+ hour day. It has just become a part of the job. I will say that Dr. Dement's theory on sleep debt has held true for me. For every 2 hours that I am awake my body requires 1 hour of sleep for compensation. if I am up for 32 hours, then I am down for 16. As a sleep tech I believe that I do a pretty decent job of keeping my sleep debt down.

That is something I've never quite understood. This need for the "younger generation" to "get high" (including the now "middle agers"), the need for them to have "something to do" instead of amusing themselves in ways that aren't destructive to themselves or to others or other's property.

I've often thought it started w/Sesame Street and the like. All those flash cards, all those flashing scenes and flashing lights, etc. I didn't let my kids watch Sesame Street because "I" couldn't handle the flash cards, flashing lights, etc. I think we over stimulate our young children's brains and they become addicted to that "over stimulation".

Most of my kids' generation never really had the opportunity to amuse themselves but were constantly "amused" so they never learned constructive self amusement but came to rely on being amused around the clock. We were lucky, our kids found ways to play outside and amuse themselves in ways that didn't get them into trouble w/the neighbors - cause we all kind of kept an eye out on each others kids - and we ratted on them and we got after them ourselves w/o regard for whose kids they were. If they did something unacceptable they were chastised for it, sent home, ratted on, whatever. But they weren't sitting in the house watching TV or talking on the phone for hours. They were outside w/their friends - or doing chores or schoolwork. And they didn't have to carry humungous backpacks loaded to the gills w/heavy books either. They had school books and homework and all that but todays kids seem to have such a load to carry to and from school!
