i have to spend more time looking through the materials floating around the web on it -- but Judy can you characterize what patient data enhancements, if any, are included in the ResMed S9?

I hear they started delivering the S9 in Europe this week, but won't deliver any in the US for another couple of months. This is the classic ResMed-way of introducing a new product line.

The FDA isn't the easiest "organization" to get approval from. And Resmed was not originally a North American company. Their purchases of other companies w/products of value to Resmed's primary interest have all been companies outside of North America, primarily European. And - if a previously undetected "bug" were to occur why would you want it to occur in the country of your greatest sales and consumer base?

I also learned that at the discretion of the provider/physician -- meaning provider/physician will have ability to turn this feature off for patients, the patient will have AHI and mask leak data for prior night's sleep -- a smiley face or frowning face graphic will telegraph to patient whether the leak rate was good or bad. Also, for first time, I'm hearing ResMed publicly acknowledge that patients who have access to their data get more engaged in therapy, and that's better for everyone -- patient and provider alike.

However, for all my griping about that second power cord and power brick Resmed STILL REMAINS THE LEADER in ease of access to and amount of data available to the patient via the LCD screen. Of course, they still leave it up to the doctors to grant that access to be turned on - but they keep gently pushing the bullheads and making that access available. Good ole Resmed.

Oh, and about home testing for those excited about home testing ....
"ResMed's management team discussed the potential of U.S. home testing, which could increase the patient pool significantly. Some insurance companies are piloting programs that make home testing a requirement before a sleep lab test could be ordered. If those programs are successful, sleep apnea treatment could be on the verge of a paradigm shift. For example, about 30% of patients who are ordered to undergo a sleep study never show up to the sleep laboratory for a variety of reasons. If home testing clears those obstacles for patients, many more of those patients could be diagnosed and then treated for sleep apnea. Also, doctors may be more willing to prescribe a test for borderline patients than they have in the past if home testing is the first option. We see this potential shift to home testing in the United States as a key potential growth catalyst for ResMed, which would probably lead to a significant increase in our fair value estimate if enacted.
