I've been struggling for some time now, going on near 3 years, with not getting the proper therapy for one reason or another (long, long story). Finally my doctor say's today that she is going to put in the prescription for me to have a new auto machine. She said I could ask for what I want. Kaiser Hospital only deals with Resmed. Which machine should I ask for????????? I told her I want to be able to hook it up to my own computer to help her help me. She was all for it. (o:

Renee, I had that machine before my current machine. The same procedure- pushing the right and left arrows at the same time and holding for a few seconds worked on my ResMed S8 Autoset II, however I don't think it gave pressure. It did give the daily hours, AHI, AI, HI, and leak. I've read they reset at noon and that seems to be the case with my machines. I don't know if they recognize daylight savings time!

Hello Mary ~

Always good to hear from you. Having read a posting by Judy, I am thinking of asking my doctor to include access to advanced/detailed patient data turned ON (SmartData) when ordering my ResMed S8 AutoSet II.

But I also thought I remembered that you had previously posted about pushing the right and left arrow buttons simultaneously and holding them down a few seconds as you mentioned here re: the ResMed VPAP Auto 25.

Do you know if that procedure will also work with the S8 AutoSet II to provide the efficacy data including: pressure, leak rate, apnea / hypopnea index?

Thanks for any thoughts you might have and all the contributions you make to the SG forum
Thanks Mary ~

That’s great to know because I’ve just changed over to a new Sleep Study Center – NYU’s Sleep Medicine Associates of NYC – and I am very happy to report that the doctors there have advised me that they will be closely monitoring my progress and that they consider it their responsibility to take care of me in resolving my OSA so that I should not feel that I have to bear that responsibility – imagine that – they think they should be involved in getting me well – some GREAT SYSTEM – HUH ?!?

So given my new start with NYU this week, I think that I’ll be fine with the “right / left arrows” method – and, of course, I don’t need the pressure data because I will know my setting – and I’ll be sure to check the data before noon.

Again, thank you so much for this !

Best,
Renee

Hi Renee,

Using the "press left and right buttons" method on my Resmed AutoSet II, I can see Leak Rate, AHI, AI, HI, Used Hours, Usage (days), Usage (hours:minutes), and Run Hours. The CPAP pressure is displayed as soon as the unit is put into CPAP mode for use.

Although the unit is self-adjusting, mine is set to fixed pressure, so I don't know if more details on the pressure is displayed when in auto-adjust mode.

I'm still a little confused about available data, but it seems that mine is displaying as much as is available. I would think that the clinician would have more detailed data, though.
Hello Andy ~

I wrote to you in another discussion and now I see here that you are using the ResMed AutoSet II. I have heard from other SG members that the Auto Set II is the best CPAP machine, so you have indeed been lucky along the way, at least in this regard. And as you are getting such great sleep results – certainly seems no reason for you to have to think about changing any equipment. Sorry you have had to get sick to get the health care you need so badly for other issues but, here’s hoping that finally you are going to get the help you need all the way around.

Thanks for the info about how you are getting the efficacy data on the Auto Set II. Even if more info is available other than Leak Rate, AHI, AI, HI, Used Hours, Usage (days, Usage (hours:minutes), and Run Hours – I will surely be fine with just that data.

Thanks for taking the time to detail this for me.

And, again, wishing you much good luck with your Pulmonologist, et al.

My Best,
Renee
