usually it's called a "full scored data summary report w/condensed graphs" or some such. i don't know what he's talking about with the report that's 400 pages long. usually doctors know what you're talking about when you say full scored data summary report w/condensed graphs... i'm seeking the counsel of some other folks who would know if there's a more formal, proper term for this, so stay tuned . ..

so am I looking for 2 reports? 1 five page report from initial diagnosis sleep lab PLUS 1 five page report from the sleep lab titration study?

Hi Jan

This varies greatly between labs.

It sounds like you were given a condensed version.

One lab I score for has a 5 page report only. Another lab has three reports. The "BIG" report is usually called an All night Split, All night Titration, PSG, Complete Night report, or some variation of that.

It's probably best to just ask for their "most detailed" report.

The 400 page report is probably the raw data. By this I mean that it's all the waveforms that were recorded through the electrodes during the night.

One way you might try going around this or to force the issue: ask for a CD or DVD of the entire study. I recently went thru this.

The sleep center that did my most recent PSG is using PSG software called NicoletOne. According to them a one page report is all NicoletOne is capable of providing which they willingly give you, plus the doctor's dictated report.

So I requested the full PSG study on CD/DVD. This they refused to provide (I have reason to believe the sleep doctor (who was a JERK) was behind their refusal to provide me w/a CD/DVD). So I pushed the issue and they agreed they would send the full PSG CD/DVD to any accredited sleep doctor of my choosing. Just because at this point this jerk had REALLY torqued my jaws I requested a copy of the Tech's Notes as well. That was supplied w/no problem. They were quite interesting and I learned a few things from it

The jerk sleep doctor sent an accompanying letter w/the CD/DVD requesting that the contents be kept confidential and the CD/DVD destroyed. My local sleep doctor is one who has no problem w/an informed patient. He gave me a copy of the jerk's letter and the CD/DVD. I had no problem activating and using that CD/DVD on my home computer.

That 2 page report you have is the doctor's dictated report. The report we recommend getting is the "full scored data SUMMARY report w/condensed graphs. This is the one that runs 5 or more pages. As jnk said, we believe it is the report that the tech provides to the doctor. Rock Hinkle or one of our other PGSTs in the forum can verify or refute this for us if we ask or they read this.

I believe that the Sandman and the Alice PSG software both produce the 5+ page "full scored data summary report w/condensed graphs". NicoletOne may or may not be able to produce this type of report. I was going to post that one page NicoletOne report in this forum but it is in "landscape" position and is scrunched to fit in a "portrait" position and thus doesn't reproduce well.

Ask your sleep lab what PSG software they use. We'll check it out and see what we can learn about its reporting capabilities.

As Jason said it varies from lab to lab. Despite being one of my favorites Judy is a sleep groupie. Unless you know how to read it you will probably not need the raw data. Just get the most detailed report they have available to you along with a copy of the prescription.

GOOD THING YOU DO, Rock Hinkle, because I am going to disagree w/you MOST STRONGLY! And be aware I may NOT be the smartest bear in the den - BUT - I RESENT, STRONGLY RESENT, this ignorant assumption on the part of the medical profession - and you - that patients are NOT intelligent enough to pick out and understand MUCH, if not most, of what is in that full scored data summary report!!!!! It is gonna take me an hour or two to get over my twit about your comment to love ya again.

But am I looking for two separate reports?

One from the initial sleep lab night to determine that I have sleep apnea. AND

One from the second sleep night titration test.

Sorry to bang on this, but I want to be crystal clear with the doctor and his assistants so that there is no wiggling around my request.

Jan, you'll get 5-8 pages of EACH report, both identifying you as having sleep apnea. You're right about getting all the graphs, etc. I just told 'em I wanted every single thing that was in my chart--the were very willing to do it--I think probably everyone ends up getting copies but you have to ask for them, usually.
