HELP WITH RESMED VPAP ADAPT SV

Hi all:

I have a remsmed vpap adapt sv, and i think i don´t know how to use it.

i´m not sleeping any better with it, and i thought i was in that phase where you just have to get used to the cpap, but it´s been too long. so now i´m thinking probably there´s a problem with my machine. i think it´s not delivering enough air pressure.

the prescription from the last sleep study i took says they set it and i should sleep at an EPAP of 8, max IPAP 25, min IPAP 12, auto-rate.

But since i´m not sleeping any better and i can´t go back to follow up becasue i live in south america (this sleep study was done in the US), i went into the clinical menu just to check.

I found out that the machine doesn´t support the air pressures it says on the prescription, or on the machine´s manual. the MAX PS on the machine´s screen at an EEP of 8 goes up to 12. the MIN PS goes up to 6.

is this right or wrong? or am i not understanding this well? Do the minimum and maximun pressure supports change according to the EPAP/EEP?

i´m embarrased to post here cause everybody knows so much and i should but i´m desperate from severe poor sleep for years. i had to go to the psychiatrist and i´m about to start taking antidepresants. he told me to address my sleep issue first no matter what other health issues i have. i haven´t done good at all with my cpap treatment. i haven´t addressed it properly, although i´ve done a lot. i´ve taken several sleep studies, 2 in the US, one in stanford. i have other health issues like chronic GERD, which i feel render my cpap treatment unsuccesful. i wonder if they have to do with the complex/central apnea.

John, Mask liners are material that go between the mask and yuor face rather than having the mask directly touching your face. It helps in a number of ways, first if you have oily skin it stops the mask from moving, also for us males, it helps he seal if you have a beard or just stubble They lso reduce those mask marks.
You can buy them over the net, there are a number of different ones I bought a 6 pack of Remzzz's and although they say to only use them once you can wash them and get about 5-6 uses. I then made a template of what I needed from there liners and went to a fabric shop and got 3 ft of 50% cotton/ 50 % poly fabric and cut out my own and they also last 5-6 uses, the next time I bought 3 ft of 50% cotton/ 50 % licra fabric. That last me about 3 months and costs about ten dollars. You don't have to use these materials, just have a look and feel around and find a material that suits you. You may be able to find something it your favourite football teams colour lol.
You should have the hose coming from above your head, not the CPAP it's self. The reason is because the gravity will pull the mask up not down, it also saves you getting tangled in the hos and accidently pulling it off. I don't suggest you go against your psychiatrist orders, I thought previously he said try CPAP first. The idea of antidepressants is that they increase your Serotonin, it basically is supposed to make you happy and in some cases can help you sleep. Unfortunately one of the side effects is insomnia in some people, so the drug that is supposed to help you can make your sleep worse. I have been on a antidepressants for a year and a half and they didn't do anything for me because I had sleep apnea not depression, some of the symptoms are similar i.e low mood, tiredness, etc. I was diagnosed with depression before the SA, I wish it had been the other way round. I have found Dr's are very quick to treat the symptoms with meds than find the cause. I can only speak from my experience but as soon as I got the SA treated and under control, the depression lifted and I am almost fully off the antidepressant. I was also put on sleeping pills, 3 lots sometimes at once and that made my SA worst because they were knocking me out when I couln't breathe anyway so I'd be waking you after an hour of sleep chocking from SA then not being able to go back to sleep, he staying awake and going to work the next day on one hours of sleep, this went on for two years until I found my slee specialist and CPAP. You can imagine how I feel now that I get 6-7 hours quality sleep and I enjoy life, sorry this is long winded and it is only my story, not everybody is the same. Just on the antidepressants or any other meds, for som people they have a place, if I was a diabetic of had a stroke and had to take meds I would, but who knows what they are doing to your body and brain. It may be co incidence but look at the increase in cancer etc, I'm not scientist but it concerns me a bit and I would rather be drug free.
To answer you last question, the serial port is the USB port.

if anyone reads this. i keep on getting this weird message on my resmed vpap adapt sv machine´s screen. it says somethiing like too much or too hihg pressure support. it starts beeping and turns off during the night. it´s happening almost every night. what´s happening? thanks.
