Impressions after three days on CPAP
It’s very strange. It feels very insistent when I first put it on – as if I can’t keep up with the level it wants me to breath. I thought that the "ramp" would help, but I find when I hit the ramp, it’s not ENOUGH air and I have to mouth breath. It takes getting used to for sure. My husband says I seem very comfortable and peaceful with it on while I’m sleeping. I have some difficulty getting the mask to sit comfortably on my nose, but once I do I can go to sleep.
I always wake up with it off. I seem to take it off after about 6-7 hours. The data on the machine says I’ve worn it 19 hours over the three nights.
I don't feel more rested, I just feel less tired. But still pretty tired.

Rome wasn't built in a day and CPAP is certainly a new way to sleep!!!! It sounds like you are doing great for just 3 nights on CPAP. It also sounds like you may well be sleeping about 6 hours a night before you take your mask off. I'd venture a guess that maybe you wake up, take it off, go to the bathroom, lay down, promise yourself you'll be it back on "in a minute", and promptly fall back to sleep w/o doing so.

You're doing FANTASTIC, and I have every confidence you will get it to where you want it to be. This is a promising start. Being able to tolerate it right off the bat for 6-7 hours is huge.
By the way, i find ramp to be not enough air too. I never use it for that reason. I actually like the feeling of more/higher pressure.
Keep doing what you're doing and let us know how things go. Each night may be different at the beginning.

Thanks for your encouragement. I don't love the feeling of air forcing itself into my nose, but I do like the coolness of it. Once I get used to the force (it takes a minute or two) I like the cool air -- the RT set it to "3" on my heated humidifier, but that was too warm. 2 or even lower is nice and cool,
Judy, you're right about the reason it's not on the morning -- I get up, think I'm going to put it on but I "rest" a minute and the next thing I know it's an hour later. I'll get through tonight.

Just keep trying Anne. It always takes awhile to get adjust to wearing something on your face all night. Just try to remember to put it back on. What I do I put my mask on before I lay back down when I get up in the night. That way I am assured it is back on and don't have to worry about it.

OK, so six hours is my limit, apparently. Last night I slept 6 hours, then a bell went off in my head, and I woke up. This time I got up instead of going back to sleep without the CPAP. We'll see if it's enough sleep. My eyes feel tired but the rest of me is fine.
Also, I think I'm getting a cold. How do I use nasal CPAP with a cold?

I have a question --
My husband says he is getting hit in the face (or the ear) with the air blowing out of my hose. Any tips on how to make this easier on him? He says it keeps waking him up,
We've transferred the poor sleep from me to him.

Oh, and another question. My eyes feel strange in the morning -- very teary. Some days I feel as if I've been crying. Anyone experience this?

Yes, I my eyes water, and get teary. You are writing the words that were in my head the first week of CPAP, and you are doing very well. Husband got used to blowing noises, but set a pillow pile between our heads at night. He now thinks my machine noise is the "white noise" that helps him sleep, but it took months. The "less tired" will add up to feeling rested, but it took a long time to get really tired, it will take time to get really rested. At 6 months, I was a new person! Hang in there. Less t

Do your eyes still water, or did you get used to it? How long have you been using CPAP?

my wife had the same complaint when i first started with cpap. i started turning away from her to the other side, and also putting a pillow between us to sort of establish the boundary for me so that i wouldn't turn too close to her while i was asleep. everybody has to get used to it, and it's natural to have these sort of logistical issues at the start

using nasal cpap with a cold is not likely to work out well. you either need to give it a rest for that night and, for that night, not use the nasal cpap or you need to have another, full face mask, on hand to deal with the nights when you have a cold. i know it's a pain in the butt, but i think that's the best advice i can give.
