Carol - thanks for asking, but am not doing so well these last few days. The lupus is acting up really bad............ughhhhhhhhh! But I did get my new nasal mask on Monday and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. I will post on discussions about it tomorrow and provide all the pertinent info about it too.
Talk tomorrow - not feeling so well.

Thanks so much for checking in! I saw my doctor last week and will soon have an at-home sleep study and probably be fitted for a new CPAP. Thanks again for being so thoughtful.
The surgery was a UPPP and Lingual Tonsillectomy. The Dr removed my Tonsils, Adenoids did a reduced Palate trim and removed excess tissue from the base of my tongue. I now sleep without a CPAP, I have stage 3 and 4 sleep with REM and dream like mad, probably dream more than anytime in my Adult life. I lost 17 pounds during the recovery which I've managed to keep off, I( am still losing weight which I really needed to do. Now I walk 4 miles a night at work and rarely get out of breath while climbing stairs. Probably the biuggest bonus and surprise was that I took in a lot more air when awake and that increased my energy level, my wife is constantly yelling for me to slow down, I'm 6'5" and she's 5'4" it's been a good experience and I wish I could have done this 30 years ago.
First, I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. I believe that I might have this because my husband has told me that when I'm snoring the whole house shakes. Also, I find myself waking up from snoring multiple times during the night. In addition, my throat is very dry when I wake up.
Also, over the last 5 years, I have gained a lot of weight and not to sound obnoxious, I believe this could add to the sleep apnea, but I am not sure. The only reason why I say this is because before I gained the weight, I did not snore.

ResMed HumidAire 31 - I like the machine. I'm using a nasal pillow right now because it seems to work better than the mask but sometimes I think I should try and go back to the mask. Not extremely happy with it. Guess I wish I didn't have to use it at all but I know I have to. Been really stressed lately - my husband just had a double by-pass and is now home from the hospital. He still has a collapsed lung so we are dealing with his breathing problems. Might have to have the fluid drained. Now they think he also has sleep apnea. He will be tested as soon as he gets through this recovery. Life is interesting - his and hers CPAP machines.!
Thanks for the welcome. I have been on the CPAP with oxygen for about a year now. I have a full face mask. I tried the mask with the nose piece but we fought every night and when I would wake up, I would be on one side of the bed and it on the other so I went back to the full face mask. I do sleep 100% better on the CPAP machine. My son was the one who recommended that I have a sleep study after watching me sleep and stop breathing one night. I think he saved my life. It is good to know of others with the same problem. Sometimes I feel people think I am crazy when I say I stop breathing without the machine.
Thanks for the welcome. It's good to know that there are others who are going through the same thing. I was diagnosed about 3 years ago and tried to use the CPAP but didn't until about a year ago. I found myself falling asleep during the day. This woke me up. I've been using CPAP machine and still wish that I didn't have to. But it does help me to sleep at least 5 hrs at a time. Before I was waking up every 2 hrs. I'm using the nasal pillow which seems to work better for me than the mask.
Thank you for the welcome. I have been diagnosed with sleep apnea for about 4 years now. My brother has it also and the has been using a cpap machine for at least 7 years.
The machine has made a big difference in the way I feel. I am still not completely happy with the head gear that I have tried, so I am still working on that. Hopefully, being a member of this forum will be very informative and helpful.
Thanks for the nice welcome. I am an EMS Educator and feel that EMTs and Paramedics should be aware of the problems associated with sleep apnea and the equipment used to help.
Thanks for giving me more input on yourself also Carol. I, too, am a recovering alcoholic and still use the AA principles. If you think about it, the AA principles actually DO apply to everyone!
I love this group and am so glad I stumbled across it and have become so involved.
I just replied to a couple of discussions since writing back to you.
I love to see your replies as they usually apply to me and some of the things I am going through.
Hope you sleep well tonight my friend!

Hi Carol. Thanks for asking how I am doing. I am actually in a huge Lupus Flare and not feeling so good. Don't know how much you know about Lupus, but it is an auto-immune disease that attacks various organs in the body "at will" - pretty hard to live with at times. I have numerous illnesses and am pretty much homebound most of the time. Am currently waiting for approval for Social Security Disability (SSD).
I love the SleepGuide site and am trying to help anyone I can with my limited knowledge and also to gain more knowledge for myself. Together we can ALL make a difference in many people's lives - and that is what it is all about.
Just this week, I donated my original C-PAP to a friend of a friend, and that gave me great joy to be able to help someone else that needed a C-PAP that I had that was already paid for, as it was not the machine I need.
I have "Central Sleep Apnea" and require the newer high tech Respironics Bi-PAP Auto Sv and it is really helping me tremendously.
I really appreciate all the info and inputs you post on this site. Feel free to contact me at any time. Here is my personal email: melodieamorris@hotmail.com
I will be receiving my new nasal mask on Monday - so after I receive it, I will make a new Discussion about it and let everyone know all about it.
I always look forward to reading your posts on the site - you are VERY helpful.
Thanks much and I hope you are doing well yourself.

Hi Carol,
I'm promoting that Sleep Apnea individuals use an Austin Air cleaner in the bedroom, plus a CPAP. AUstin Air makes excellent bedroom air cleaners. Check 'em out at www.austinair.com.
Thank You Carol for the warm welcome. I was diagnosed about six months ago. I cannot get through a whole night with the mask on I feel like I'm suffocating. I can no longer drive because of falling asleep at the wheel. I found this site through Facebook. Looking for help and support.
If the people that sold me the bill of goods - and the gear weren't playing the "show me the money" game i'd ask them fopr it. My CPAP machine is a Puritan Bennett GoodKnight 4208. I'd also like to see what the machine could tell me about my sleep patterns, if that is possible. I'm just groping in the dark about this stuff.
