Came across recent study that indicated that "white matter and gray matter was both remarkably damaged in OSAS patients, which could contribute to memory impairment." (http://www.websciences.org/cftemplate/NAPS/archives/indiv.cfm?ID=20...)

now where are those darn keys?

This study is just a reiteration of another study last year that showed significant scattered areas of brain damage in untreated OSA patients using DTI (diffusion tensor imaging). This was discussed by Dr. Jones in the obstructive sleep apnea and Alzheimer's interview.

Not only can it aggravate memory problems, but it can also affect your hormones (your brain is the largest hormone gland), breathing patterns, sleep patterns, muscle and sensory nerve functioning, and more.
In the refrigerator w/your wallet, Mike. *wicked grin*
i'm 35, going on 80 when it comes to memory. even now that i'm on cpap, i still cannot for the life of me remember what's in my pocket, what i had for lunch earlier in the day, what clothes i'm wearing unless i look at myself, little things like that... probably too much gray matter fried off during all those years that i didn't know what sleep apnea was, let alone how to treat it.

Hey! Since switching from CPAP to VPAP I haven't even once put the butter in the cupboard and the sugar in the refrigerator!!

Walking around cussing and looking for your keys when they are in your hand doesn't count! I'm 67, some forgetfulness is to be expected.
Being on a bi-pap for 2 years has not helped my memory any. Just yesterday I was wracking my brain trying to remember the year of the used car I just bought. If my life depended on it I could not remember! I had to call my husband at work and ask him. It's an '07. Sigh. Hmm...I just did that car keys in the hand thing today and I'm only 44.
I am 35 and most of the time I do not know where my wallet or keys are. Funny stuff guys!!
Just thought I'd add to this post about memory because I was very upset with myself today. It just feels so unnatural like I have alzheimers or something. I've known all day that my child has a sculpting class to go to that lasts from 4 to 5:30 on Thursdays. I know this! What do I do? I wait to leave the house thinking the class starts at 4:30. As soon as I drive down the street I remember I'm a half an hour late! I cried when I got home and was so upset. I just felt so stupid and awful.
we've all done more stupid and awful things than that. be good to yourself.

I also forget so much stuff. My biggest problem is with numbers and dates. I have missed so many appointments and I can't remember phone numbers. Thank god I can program them into my phone.
BoneSigh, ask my daughter about the time I forgot all about picking her up after track! How's that for a kid feeling loved and wanted?
I am a guru with numbers. I can't remember the days of week to save my life though.
