Okay, Rock Hinkle, FESS UP!!!!
We understand that YOU just went thru an at-home sleep study. What device was used? What were the results? Are they gonna be compared w/an in-lab study of your sleep? Are they gonna be compared w/data from your at-home use of a fully data capable CPAP? Or APAP?

If this shows that I have apnea I will have a psg performed. I was actually scheduled to have a psg on Thursday, but we had some scheduling issues come up. I got bumped. I opted for the home study to see if I had a need for the psg. I have not felt all that rested lately Judy. My wife says that I have been snoring.

Oh vell, Rock Hinkle, if you do have OSA at least it is someting easily treatable, eh? Do you suppose maybe it is catching your vorking around so many apneans for so long??? Ve vill vait vith baited breath for your results!!!
Ven did you do it so ve see how it takes for YOU to get results??!!

I have a related question: so many of the professionals working with us (insert your favorite term here, from the thread "How to Identify Ourselves") seem to also be users of CPAP equipment. Barring their jealousy of our totally cool equipment, which is ONLY for those with sleep disordered breathing...that begs the question:
Are they initially interested as a result of their own diagnoses, OR more apt to be tested (quickly?) once involved in the field, due to their work environment?
Another 'enquiring' mind wants to know. :D

Great question birdshell. I knew nothing of apnea, and very little of sleep disorders before I started working in sleep. I have put on 20lbs since switching to the 4th shift. I began to notice my own symptoms. This along with my wife's observations told me that I might want to get it checked out.

Just in case your curious if I need a machine I will push for the Resmed Autoset II if possible.

I have considered both. I went to a conference a couple of weeks ago. While there I was able to corner both my Resmed and Respironics reps about these 2 systems. I do like what Respironics is doing with their line. They are a great company. I believe that that their auto titrating algorithm is the best on the market to date.
I want to make it clear that before doing anything I will be having a psg/titration study. I will not be self titrating. Despite having the knowledge to do so I will provide myself with the same sleep team that I advise all of you to find. I will not make any changes to my therapy without talking it over with someone from my medical support group.
While I am getting some support with my journey all of my needs will be paid out of pocket. I am doing this to keep anyone from having any control over my therapy (If needed). So I will not be needing the physician monitoring offered with the new PR1 system. This and the rainout control are the only difference that I have seen in the 2 systems. I will not be using the auto feature much so the little differences that I have noted in algorithms is a mute point. My reasons for going with the autoset II is that I want to be titrated at the lowest possible pressure. From what I have seen Resmeds titrates at a lower pressure than Respironics.
And the main reason I choose the Autoset II over the PR1 (drumroll) I want to be able to monitor my own data now. I do not believe that we as patients should have to wait for them to develop it. This is something that I feel should have been released with the unit. Just my opinion though. The truth of the matter is that both companies make great units. If I did not have a choice and knew I was going to get one of these machines I would not be mad. Respironics has put out 2 generations of great PAP units. As the great jnk says "it's a personal preference."
