Mike,

Don't beat yourself up too badly!! Look at another way -- at least you did wake up.

Now you will remember why you use your machine every night. :)
Mike, try limiting your naps during the day to 30-45 minutes. When you go longer, you'll get into deeper levels of sleep and especially in REM, when you have muscle relaxation, you'll have more obstructive episodes. If you plan on sleeping longer, remember to use your CPAP.

This is an important point for all CPAP users to consider.
fascinating. so sounds as if I'm fairly "safe" if i take a nap without the CPAP on if the nap's duration is only 30-45 minutes? i thought any nap at all wasn't "safe" without the CPAP. this is news to me. but your logic makes sense. i guess it's not totally black and white, though, since some people will skip to deep sleep/REM pretty darn quick if they've accumulated a big sleep deficit, no?

Mike
I can't nap -- if I do, I wake up feeling more tired than when I laid down. Also, I usually have a headache and body aches and I'm very grumpy.
Is this sleep apnea related?
Oh, I'm newly diagnosed and don't have my cpap yet. Once I have it, I'll try napping with it and see if that's any better.
i think it's likely to be sleep apnea related, but i would expect you to have the same symptoms after a regular night's sleep, and not just after a nap. what happens after you sleep all night long? do you wake up feeling tired and grumpy? If so, i'd say that's a sure sign of sleep apnea.

Mike,
You know, I really never have had the sense that I sleep poorly at night. I always just thought that it takes me a while to get fully awake -- I don't particularly feel tired and grumpy in the morning. I do sometimes wake up with a dry mouth or a headache -- I've always attributed that to bruxism (teeth grinding). If I don't wear my night guard for teeth grinding, I wake up headachy. But after a nap, I feel wretched,no matter what.
Before my OSA diagnosis, we always just thought that I never got into "deep" sleep with a nap, and that's why I wake up grumpy.
Anne
