That's irritating. Although I'm not one to get excited over a sweepstakes where the grand prize is a colonoscopy, i imagine that many folks with sleep apnea would be, and i cannot see what the rationale would be for discriminating against us. anyone have any idea?

Aw, come on, guys, THINK! The grand prize is a colonoscopy. It is an outpatient procedure and it is usually done w/sedation. Think LIABILITY. Whichever facility will be providing the procedure wants to reduce its liablity for a procedure they will be offering at no cost (or at reduced cost to the sweepstakes sponsor).

It is okay...If I was gonna win a prize I'd want something other than a colonoscopy.
Sleep apnea puts us at risk for complications. I also got turned down for bone marrow registry testing because I have high blood pressure and therefore even if I was a match I would not be eligible to have the surgery because I was an increased risk. My hubby same thing because of asthma. This is not discrimination, this is simple risk analysis.
I know of a post-surgical patient who had some pretty severe respiratory problems post-op and it was decided that this patient's main risk factors that lead to the problems was UNDIAGNOSED SLEEP APNEA combined with pain medications. So there you have it---we are at more risk than the average bear. Just be glad that between you and me, we are DIAGNOSED sleep apnea. We are the ones actively getting treated. So forgoing that free colonoscopy is all right by me.
I just wonder how they are going to screen every free colonoscopy sweepstakes entrant for that undiagnosed kind of sleep apnea, which is a far riskier patient than you or I.

Sounds might prejudicial and mean spirited. I thought they were caring people - so they try to convince us. Ray Charles could see who they really are and the poor man lived generations with no sight.

Not really, Ron. I do not blame them at all for trying to reduce all the high risk people they can whilst still trying to offer a needed "service" as a "prize".
Remember the old saying? Never look a gift horse in the mouth? There are so many who look for the "freebies" and don't appreciate them when they do get them. I well remember many years ago, during one of the economic downturns in our area my husband's employer held a picnic in a "underprivileged" area of a town nearby, restricted to just the residents of that area. It wasn't just the children but also the adults that just pillaged the tables of food. NOT to take home and save or to share w/others, they'd grab a hot dog, take one bite and throw it on the ground and grab two or three more. Egg salad sandwiches just mashed against tree trunks, deviled eggs thrown at passing cars .... They trashed the facility and there was more food w/one or two bites taken out of it on the floors and grounds than one could ever have imagined. It would have turned your stomach. The company never held such an event again - and it had been planned to be an annual event.
