Give our best to Janey and her Dad! Funny thing is, my Dad, on a pacemaker, inquired to his (Medicare/Secure Horizons)
Doc about CPAP, and they (even his cardiologist) said "Oh, Bill, you're not a candidate for CPAP" So, that was the end of that, I'm certainly not going to press the issue, he has enough health problems to deal with, but I don't want to end up the same way.

I'm surprised to hear that your dad's cardiologist moved him away from a sleep study. My cardiologist was the one who referred me for testing in the first place. HD and apnea are clearly connected in some way......

How's your dad doing otherwise? How old is he?

Have you ever wondered if he has apnea?

I'm pretty sure you've bought yourself some insurance against heart disease being on CPAP--you've for SURE reduced your risk factor. My heart disease was diagnosed 4 years ago, sleep apnea not till 6/09......

I am sure my Dad had OSA his entire life because we could hear his snoring as a kid. He is now 86, and I think his doctors think he wouldn't have the patience for it, in addition to his sinus-cough problems (which I still think are related to his heart/lungs)/pacemaker affects, and taking care of my step-mother who has Parkinson's, I think they think he would be overwhelmed. It's best not to wait that long, because CPAP takes some patience.

Hello Everyone,

Thank You for the support. Last week was THE hardest week of my life on so many levels! My dad had a heart attack on the 10th. He lives in Oregon and I in Washington. I went to be with him after I juggled kids' schedules, and got back on Sunday night. I had to reschedule my second sleep study, so I get to wait another month or so to get my cpap. He had his bypass on Tuesday, which I was scared out of my mind for. I found out on Wednesday that about the same time they took by dad for pre-op my Uncle passed away... So I was trying to be there for my dad, and then visiting my Aunt and trying to help her. I think I had about two hours of sleep until Thursday night, when my dad kicked me out! Ahhh joys! So long story short, I AM SO Glad that he is here to be cranky with me! =)

I am finally home, and I have been a slug trying to re-coup, but I came home to the family with the flu!!

I have to tell you, I was on a slow path of taking a healthier road in my life. I am More motivated now then ever! I do not want to EVER put my kids or nieces and family with what we had to deal with over the last week and half! My dad is only 57! It took him a long time to get this way.

Anyways, thank you for your support.

A second opinion on what? He has already had the bipass surgery, and the apnea was Dx during the surgery. Knowing that untreated apnea leads to heart problems I believe that this is a pretty cut and dry case. Hopefully they can get him on PAP therapy soon as it will help with his recovery and continual health. In this particular instance the screening process may have saved his life.

Rock- that was a reply to my post about MY Dad. Unfortunately, my Dad is "cozy" with some Secured Horizons doctors in Ventura County, CA, it's a small town, my Dad likes to be shall we say... " massaged" by his Docs, if they give him a pill for ANYTHING, he will take it. When he said the pacemaker surgeon said " Bill, you're not a candidate for CPAP...: my first reaction is to say. " WHY NOT????" My Dad isn't like that, he's passive. So, I butted out, I have my own family and wife to to take care of, for now.

Hi Janey! There are times in our lives we need to take care of our parents or elders, just remember this, since I took care of my Mom, and both my in-laws, and my wife: " Don't let the health of loved ones ruin your health" I know this is philosophical, but I have been through it, and we want you to take care of yourself, you can pickup the CPAP when you get through all this other crap, You can't help anybody if your own health suffers. Anything we can do, just ask.
