I was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea and a few days ago I received
my first CPAP machine.  It came with three mask: one full face, one
nasal, and one nasal pillow type. This will be my third night using it
and for the life of me, I find it hard trying to go to sleep with my
CPAP on.  I lie in my bed for hours trying to fall asleep and its driving
me crazy.  Even after I fall asleep I find my self waking up frequently
annoyed with the stuff on my face.  I get up the next day really tired as if I had no sleep.  I have tried all three mask and its
the same either way.  I was wondering if anyone else has experianced these problem and wondering if this will go away with more time.

My pressure is at 8 and find it a little hard to breath like I am not getting enough air.  My mask feels somewhat comfortable but annoying after a long while wearing it.  My machine has this button you can press so that the pressure drops to 4 then slowly works its way back up, but I find that the lower pressure makes it even harder to breath.

it sound as if you really need the Cpap, take a little at a time and build up tolerance slowly
You may need a mild sedative or sleeping pill in the beginning to help you sleep through the night.
We also recommend trying to wear the mask/ pillows while reading or watchine tv (not on the machine) to help get used to the feeling of the mask on your face. You don't have to use the ramp feature if it makes you more uncomfortable.
CPAP and the mask can be hard to get used to, at least you're trying. Keep up the good work and keep us posted.
Like 99 said, build up your tolerance slowly. Good Luck.

Try turning your flex or EPR off. you may also want to talk to doc about a week's supply of ambien to help you through the adjustment.
Yeah I think I will call my doc for some ambien to help out. I am not sure what flex or EPR is.
Jason- you know that button you push that puts the pressure to four and brings it up slowly- that's ramp (or settling). EPR is Expiratory relief which lowers your pressure when you exhale.
I don't know about flex, but either of the other two can contribute to the feeling of not getting enough air.
