Cleaning your CPAP equipment with Listerine?
My DME just told me to clean all my hoses, mask and humidifier tank with Listerine. I wonder if anyone else has heard about this? I just use baby shampoo and water....Pros or cons?

Wow- never heard that. Before you do it, do research. I would not. Alcohol can't be good. And baby shampoo is hard to rinse out of the hoses. Use wt vinegar after that -like 2-10 ratio, to get rid of any shampoo.

My DME told me I could use mouthwash after cleaning if there was any residual smell from cleaning. He didn't say Listerine, which has a LOT of alcohol. He was talking about one that just smells nice, and just swish it for a few seconds.

I've been using Dr. Bronner's liquid soaps - a few squirts in a sink of warm water, swish everything around - fill the hose with the soapy water -- rinse everything well (which doesn't take much with this stuff) and hang it up to dry. http://www.drbronner.com/DBMS/LS.htm I like the Lavender the best as it deoderizes well and doesn't leave a soapy after smell...quite a nice after scent if any at all...
Most health food and holistic stores carry Dr. Bronners. And the label is a hoot to read if you find yourself in the bathroom without any, ah, reading material near at hand...

So much better than vinegar and water! Hate the smell :- (
Particularly love the baby shampoo......will experiment to see which works best with least amount of residue. As far as the alcohol content in mouthwash, you can always do a light rinse with water following the mouthwash if you're concerned about damaging the the hose. Of course hard water can also leave a residue. I'm fortunate and have awesome clear wonderful spring water in my well : - )

I never thought about using Listerine...can't stand the smell of it anyway. I think Listerine could double as paint remover...
I think I will stick with soap and water, I do like Moe's Dr Bronners suggestion, natural soap sounds good to me. I DO use vinegar and water to clean my water tank.
Hey Susan, when you first came to Sleepgude didn't you say you were going to use Clorox? I seem to remember you were going to use clorox and a hairdryer? Or maybe it was someone else. SMILES>>>>> we are all helping each other which is why I love Sleepguide so much. :>D

I use the citrus cleaner here and checkout this brush if you clean your own tubing

I let it soak using the brush, then repeat process with white distilled vinegar-water like 2/10 ratio, then rinse good. It
takes a lot of water rinsing & wish we had a well! I have 6 tubes, and clean 2 each time, rotate. Got the tubes here
too for $6.95 (standard gray) but they advertise a new lightweight one, cheaper yet.

I use a dish soap that's not anti-bacterial and non-scented if I can get one. I use 1/2 distilled vinegar (white distilled) (big jug at walmart) and then I finally fill up a tub with some baking soda and water, mainly water a few shakes of baking soda to get rid of the odor from the vinegar. And finally rinse everything using distilled water. And either let air dry or invest in a microfiber cloth to dry parts from the dollar tree/99cent store.
