I found out from this forum I could change the pressure on my machine. I was led-on by the DME lab that only they could set my prescription, so I never investigated this, thinking I'd have to take it in and pay them. I bought several of these filters http://www.cpapplus.com/Miscellaneous/BacteriaFilter.html
and I suspected it reduced the pressure, so last night I raised the pressure 1 point, and bingo, now I can use these, since I'm not good about cleaning my humidifier more than every 2 weeks, this is added security. Woke up feeling great, this adds a 3rd filter in addition to the foam and paper ones at the air intake.

when i was issused with my S8 i did not have any filters given my except the foam intake filter directly into the intake of my machine

and as it was my machine in other filters anywhere on the hose nor on the mask

it was diffrent when i was loaned a machine to do the autoset, i had to change them every day
I thought the fiber filter was standard UNDER the foam filter, in the back of the machine, that's where the air comes in. I think the fiber filter is essential, right? It's gray, I replace.
I have two filters--one a disposable white one that goes in first--change about monthly or whenever it looks compromised in any way. The second is the permanent gray foam one--that gets squeezed around in soapy water whenever I clean my equipment then rinsed and dried thoroughly before putting it back in, on top of the white one. The gray ones last quite a while--you can use them till they begin to disintegrate or show any sign of wear.

Susan- that's right, I meant to say when the white fiber filter is "gray" ( meaning: dirty) ,I replace it. The foam filter is dark gray and washable, like you said, roll in paper towel, drys w/ hairdryer fast.
