Dry Eyes
I'm using the Swift Nasal Pillow for her and don't notice that air is blowing in my eyes...but something is going on because my eyes have been dry for the last week or so since starting CPAP. I've been using Visine Dry Eye Relief which is labeled as "sterile tears." Am wondering if any of you have any other solutions-- the visine sterile tears seems to help but not to completely solve the problem.

Have you checked your data to make sure you don't have an air leak? I have used the Swift LT nasal pillows and even if a little bit of air leaks it makes your eyes dry. Or if the mask is too tight it presses up on my eye area somewhat. Just a thought. Your data should tell you if you do have a leak.

I have dry eyes since starting CPAP too, Jan. I use the same eyedrops as you, have for awhile. It seems to be a little less uncomfortable at this point. I don't use them every night and a.m. anymore, but at times I need them. I have no idea what causes that......I'm on a FF mask, and come to think of it, seems like the eye thing got better since them. (?) connection..........don't know. But I KNOW the dry eyes started after CPAP began.

Thanks-- I checked the data for leaks and it looks like my leak rate is a bit below what the manufacturer recommends for this style. I also physically check periodically to see if I can feel leaks around the pillows and I can't...thanks much for trying to puzzle this through with me.

Dry eyes is usually caused ether by the leaks or posible a lack of salt in the body or both

Any medication changes or changes in your sleeping environment?
Since your leak rates are below manufacturer numbers, that rules out mask leaks in my world. I think med changes and environmental factors (including weather) are good places to start.

Thanks Saz-- could just be a seasonal change...sometimes the simplest answers are the best.
The only other recent environmental changes are ones that I have made to try and clean up my "sleep hygiene." Don't sleep with lights on, shut computer down, turn off tv ;-)

Last spring I had what the doctor believed to be pink eye -- in both of my eyes. Pink eye was making the rounds at school so when my eyes became bloodshot (although they never matted) I went to the doctor. She gave me some prescription anitbotic eyedrops to use. I used the entire bottle of the drops and my eyes felt dry and itchy. I went to the eye doctor last week and told her my eyes have been itching slightly and my vision blurry at times. She put in some dye drops and said I am not making enough tears to keep my eyes moist and told me to use Soothe XP eye drops. Walgreens handle them and they are over the counter. The last for 8 hours and seem to do a much better job than the other drops I have tried.

Thanks Carol-- I will give it a shot and see how it works. I checked the humidity in my bedroom and the rest of my house and it isn't too dry in here so unfortunately, that is not it.

Hello, I solved my problem with this by attaching an eye night mask to my headgear. I have a Mirage Quattro so I just put 2 little holes in the mask (the eye mask) and attached it to the head piece. Works like a charm, does not slip around, no problems since. Good luck!
