I am hoping some of the more experienced users of Resmed machines can help.
I have an S8 Vantage and have used it since December. I like that machine better than my M series Apap. However I find that the filters on the S8 aren't as effective as those on the M series. The M series has a foam filter that is washable and then a micro filter that is disposable. The micro filter helps with allergens and I replace it regularly in the M series when using it. I have found that the filters on the S8 lack in this area and hardly ever appear to be "dirty". I have resorted to purchasing the filters that attach between the hose and the machine to help control the gunk I am breathing in. I would like to see if there any alternatives to help with the cost since these filters can be more expensive.

Not sure if it is the same filter that I am thinking of. Try cutting a piece off of your furnace/air filter. cut it to fit. This is what I do on my S8 Auto II. You can buy one air filter for $8. It will last a while.

ARe you referring to the Blue/white filers on the back? I live in FL... not sure what a furnace filter looks like, but I like the idea as I just had to reorder new ones for my S8 Auto II

Yeah. It seems that the blue and white filters do NOT do as good of job as the M series foam and micro filters on filtering out the gunk.
Which furnace filter do you use Rock? Are they the hepa type?

yes they are the hepa type. I have used the others in a pinch for myself and family members. I seem to spend quite a bit of time rebiulding PAPs now. The Walmart brand is $8.

Gonna check out the aisle at Walmart's next time I go. I typically avoid WalMart at all cost - even though my son works at the local one.
