Aerophagia is the medical term for this. Bilevel, FLEX or EPR, full face mask etc.. are all trouble-shooting techniques. It does happen & often goes away naturally, but sometimes it seems to be worse in smaller framed people.....
Wow !! I have to say that I never had this problem until about 3 months ago. Only, I am waking up at 2-3 am and my stomach is distended, it truly looks like someone blew a balloon up in there and my whole body is full of air !! I have stopped using my bipap because of it. I think my body has changed and my pressure is too high ( this is a self diagnosis ). But, I did tell my dr about it and he didn't want to do another sleep study although my last one was last year, and he did not want to change my pressure "at this time"..... so we shall see !!! but keep me posted !
Eructation and excessive morning flatus can be symptoms of other issues regardless of using nPAP. If it continues more than a few weeks contact your Healthcare provider.
Ah, you must be a mouth breather. I use a Mirage Quattro full-face mask and after almost one year on CPAP, I still wake up burping and having flatulence. Did I have this problem before CPAP, the answer is No. But, of course, I wasn't sleeping because of the repeated apnea episodes so I figured this is a trade-off!
The burping, etc. actually did get better for me and sometimes I don't even realize when I wake up that I burp so it must be sporadic. At times, it seems to be the first thing I do after I take the mask off and then stand up.
I could not tolerate the type of mask that covered only my nose/nostrils. I would wake up gasping for air because I would try breathing through my mouth and that's a no-no with the other type of mask. So, I'm stuck with the full-face.
Now, if someone could only tell me how to get rid of the deep indentations in my cheeks when I take the mask off, that would be appreciated!
Hang in there, it does get better.
