recently dxed with severe obstructive sleep apnea about 2 weeks ago. I am wanting to find a doctor in the Kansas City area to evaluated for surgery. I am not really motivated to sleep with the icu kit. Thanks for welcoming me.

Hi I am Peggy From Montgomery, Al. I have just been diagnosed with sleep apnea, and have brought home the machine to try it out. Not been able to get the mask to fit right yet. Am looking forward to reading everyones story,

Getting that mask to fit right is probably the hardest part of the whole process for some of us.
Maybe your equipment provider can provide some guidance/assistance. I forgot if you mentioned just what mask you are wearing, let us know and chances are someone here has wrestled with that very mask. After 2 years I'm trying a new type of mask, a FitLife Total face mask and everynight I have to try something different with the straps.

Thank you. it is a respironcs comfortgel. The silicone around the gel is SOOO irritating. I am afraid it is going to cause a callous on my face, and it is not to tight, any looser, and the thing leaks. I think it is the silicone. would love to just CUT it off. again, thank you for responding.

Peggy, if you haven't had the mask 30 days, call your equipment provider and talk to a tech about the problem you're having with the mask. Maybe he/she can recommend a substitute. Also there is a product called Rem Zzzs which is a liner that fits between the mask and your face that might help make the mask bearable. If you google the name you should come up with the website. If you have any trouble finding them let us know.

Thank you again. Is this product covered under insurance or an OOP expense? I have already had them switch one out, the first one they sent was to big and heavy. I was using my upper lip to hold it up, which was irritating. Can't you just picture that? ha ha ha. It was pretty funny, NOW!! She said she couldn't swap out again. I didn't understand that line of thinking. I mean you only get 2 tries and thats it?

RemZzzs would be OOP, but might well be worth it. They used to sell a sample pack, but if it's not offered anymore I'm sure if you write them they could help you out.
Also, this might be the time to talk to the superviser (I had to insist last time I tried to get a superviser- they tried to stonewall me, don't let them do that to you). It's their job to fit you with a mask that works, to allow you to try different masks at one sitting to find one you think you can use. CPAP is no good if you can't wear the mask. If they can't or won't accomdate you (I don't know all the circustances) there are usually other DME providers that may be easier to deal with. I believe most insurances allow a new mask every three or six months so you can at least change then. My RT came by my house time after time to let me try on masks.
So I'd try the RemZzzs (they'll ship fast) and/or talk to the boss at your suppliers office, they usually are more anxious to please you and keep your business than some of the techs.

Hi, I am Craig living in Southwest Florida. I have been suffering from Sleep Apnea for years without knowing what it was or that it was so destructive. I was only diagnosed last month and just finished my first week on my new CPAP machine. I have had more sleep in one week than I have had in several months combined. I have already spent alot of time in this forum reading and learning. I appreciate the work and contributions of so many others. I look forward to getting better and contributing back. Thank you for this forum!

Hi Everyone,
I am using my old machine Puritan Bennett GoodKnight 420 and have lost the directions on how to adjust the settings (clinical) in my archived computer files, if anyone has them out there can you resend, I would really appreciate it. I know how to adjust the pressure but not the other options and I think I changed something while trying to adjust the setting recently.

My red blood cells were 3 times higher than they should be.One Dr was taking a pint of my blood weekly an disposing of it,then I had no iron in my body could hardly move ,he then gave me iv iron for 2 weeks.Didn;t make since to me asked my primary phd to get me another phy an closer I was driving 60 miles weekly.My new Dr told my Judy I promise you I will find out what is your problem.He had me checked for sleep apnea then I went on the cpap at night.Felt great the first year now for past 6 mos I haven't used it an all my blood labs are reading normal I still have machine but now it bothers me to wear it.In fact I feel like I now have more energy.I had other Drs. looking at me for bone an liver cancer makes you wonder what Drs. to trust.

i went off mine 6 months ago caused sore throat now going to do another night test hpefully they lower ox level on cpap level im feeling great now but red blood cells still go up

I just want to say how much I enjoy this forum and how much help everyone has been to me. Since diagosis April of '08 I continue to struggle with achieving optimal results from my BiPap. My first mistake was in switching from a perfectly good Sleep Medicine Specialist to one who I felt was more convenient. Don't ever leave a good doc for one you think may be better because he/she may be closer. My new doc's practice grew at such a rate that he no longer could give me the time I needed with him, plus his sleep lab was second rate (compared to my first hospital based lab), and he was never able to get me titrated properly. I just recently- this month- changed back to the old, reliable, professional I started with and am essentially starting from scratch. Without the support, determination to go on, and knowledge SleepGuide has given me
I would probably have given up long ago. To the new folks, hang in here, it gets better.
