Is Resmed a Leader?

I am a newbie in the world of sleep apnea but I just noticed that Resmed is coming out with a frame that is interchanceable with several different cushions. If you have or get the Mirage Activa LT frame/system you can not only use the LT cushion but also use the bigger Activa cushion and soon to be released Mirage softGel cushion.I like the MicroFit dial on that frame(just like the Mirage Quattro)and they claim it is to be quieter than many of the other mask. With only haveing to buy the cushion instead of a whole system will cut down on our investments.

Resmed is a leader in the CPAP field and many think that they make the sturdiest masks. Many mask allow for replacing worn out cushions (altho the local DME suppliers don't like to admit it and often don't care the replacment cushions but have to special order them for you). HOWEVER, I think this new Resmed Mirage Activa LT may be the only one that allows for different "style" cushions to fit one frame. Not a bad idea actually. Nor is it a bad idea to have one headgear to fit at least a couple of different style masks.

I can't speak for your insurance but Medicare will reimburse for a new cushion or new nasal pillows every 30 days, a new mask every 3 months and new headgear every 6 months, and a new hose every 3 months too. But I don't persoanlly know of ANY local DME supplier who will provide any one of the three mask parts w/o being prodded and pushed to do so. My first local DME supplier (that I subsequently dumped) would not provide a new cushion for my mask until I printed out the Medicare replacement schedule and rubbed their nose in it - and then took 3 weeks to get the cushion ordered and available to me.
