I have been diagnosed with OSA over 15 years ago. I have had a struggle with obesity complicated by diabetes Type 2 and severe arthritis. I do believe that OSA and its link to hypothyroidism is a strong one. But I have stopped keeping my focus on "losing weight" and fad diets to bring about a rapid turn-around in my goal to "lose weight". I have changed the way I look at my obese state by understanding that my ultimate goal is to manage my weight by managing my food intake and increasing my exercise and activity level. I call it a life changing look at myself wholistically- physically, mentally, emotionally, socially and spiritually. A look to a healthier lifestyle so I can experience a greater quality of life for myself, my loved ones and my friends and acquaintances.
So I faithfully use my mask daily keeping it maintained and in good operational condition. I get periodic updates from my respiratory people at the nearby VA medical center and I have begun to make healthier choices for myself. I eat off an 8 to10" plate and do not indulge in seconds unless after 20 minutes of letting my food settle I still have a genuine hunger for more. I savor my food now as well and set down my fork after eating each helping. Having a strong support network is also crucial so that you can compare notes, ideas and suggestions with others traveling the road less traveled.
