I wanted to understand the difference in treatment between the top of the line Respironics versus ResMed machines, so I got a ResMed S8 AutoSet II and used it for the first time last night. I had some problems. I woke up once having pulled the mask off. And the reason is probably related to the fact that I woke up in the morning feeling much more congested than usual -- and less well rested.

Everything otherwise -- my mask, chinstrap, pressure settings, etc. -- are the same. I'm also toying around to find the optimal humidifier setting.

I'm of course not writing off this excellent machine because I had problems with it on the first night, but can anyone give me some advice about how to resolve these problems?

here's last night's data -- looks pretty excellent all in all. thing is, i am not having the same "get up and go" that i experienced with my M Series Pro. It could be sleep deprivation (from some busy days this past week), or maybe there's some sort of adjustment period for me to get used to ResMed's algorithm?
Pressure 11.8
Leak 0.14 L/s !!!! -- good right?
AHI 4.0
AI 0.5 --- can't get much better than this, right?
HI 3.5 -- nothing to be concerned about, right?
as promised, the mask leak feature is as follows: you put on your mask and turn on the machine. then you hold the start/stop button down for a couple of seconds. then the mask leak gauge will appear, telling you what kind of fit you have -- excellent or good or poor. try it and let me know what you think.

Where is the mask leak test feature? That sounds cool.

ha ha ;-) my nose feels just fine at the two setting on the humidifier. i noticed a little bit of condensation this morning in the mask, but it doesn't bother me.

i notice the RESMED (there, I got it this time ;-) has a nifty mask leak test feature. in other words, while you're trying to get your mask adjusted to fit properly, on the screen, the machine will tell you how you're doing by how much it's leaking: poor, good, excellent . . . you guys use that at all?

Wow, your numbers look a lot like mine...a lot. My leak rate is less, but like I have said before, I think the Swift LT nasal pillows were made from using a cast of my nose...:>D How does your nose feel at the 2 setting on the humidifier? Hey, I love my REAMED as well.

:>D
maybe my body's just getting used to the new ResMed machine, but i'm not having that same "get up and go" in the morning that i had with my M Series Pro. . . yet. anyone have any thoughts?

my numbers for last night are below:

Pressure 11.8
Leak 0.30 L/s
AHI 5.7
AI: 0.8
HI: 4.9
