Hey guys, I recently got a resmed vanatge s8. And I haven't went through a docter, because of the 2 year. Waiting list. Anyways a few q's for you guys.

1.) I can't change the setting from autoset to cpap without a doc doing it?

2.) The lady I got it from has a 5 setting when I go to bed. When I get up in the middle of the night the number is a 7 or 8? What does that mean in autoset mode? Is that bad?

3.) What happens if you open your mouth to breath at night? Is there a reason these mask are only nasal?

4.) How in the world do I bring girls home with this mask? Lol I look like the bad guy from the racoons cartoon.

The Resmed S8 AutoSet Vantage is one h*ll of a good APAP! Congratulations on your good fortune to get one. I also bought one before I was switched to a bi-level.

It sounds like the Vantage is auto titrating to 7 or 8 cms. I'd be inclined to reset the pressure to 8 cms in straight CPAP mode.

There are 4 basic styles of mask: full face masks, nasal cushions masks which it sounds like you have, nasal pillows masks that are two short nobs or prongs that fit up against and almost or slightly into your nostrils, and "hybrid" style which are a combination of nasal pillows and a mouth cushion.

If you open your mouth at night, your pressure therapy goes flying out your mouth rather than down your airway to keep your airway open and prevent your apneas and reduce your hypopneas.

Gracious! You don't wear your mask and use your xPAP when romping in the hay w/your girlfriend! You don't wear your mask and use your CPAP when you're cuddled on the sofa watching TV. You wear the mask and use the CPAP when you are FINALLY ready to go to sleep - and you take the mask off and turn the xPAP off before you're ready for another romp in the hay. THIMK! Just let the gals know the mask and CPAP keep you from snoring and lets them sleep.

I take it you are able to check your Efficacy Data via the LCD screen since you know that it starts at 5 cms and by morning is showing 7 or 8 cms of pressure.

Check your data via the LCD screen tomorrow BEFORE noon, but at least 15 minutes AFTER you shut it off and get up in the morning.

Write down your Leak, Pressure, AHI and AI and post them. Also check your Usage Data and tell us how many hours you slept tonight. We can then better advise you.
