My CPAP has arrived...not impressed...
OK after waiting almost 7 months I finally have my titrate machine for 10 days, when that goes back I get my permanent device.
As expected it took me ages to get off to sleep last night, I had to take 10mg diazepam to get me off, I woke up at half 6 (I'm normally up at about 8.30) and didn't feel as tired as I normally would from having less sleep but I certainly didn't feel any more energetic. Less tired but not energetic.
This afternoon I had a sleep (yep, still tired in the afternoon) but I had so much trouble getting off - I'd start to drift off but then I'd wake up with an intake of breath - a bit like a large sigh - what was that all about?

Does this mean I might end up waking up enegetic eventually?
Also I have a bit of a blocked nose today, if I put an open bottle of Olbas Oil near the air intake will it get through to me?

Yes, you will wake up energetic eventually. Don't settle for anything less. That is the goal of treatment. If you're not attaining that after giving it some time, you need to trouble shoot further. We can help you if that should happen trying to figure things out. I've never tried putting something behind the air intake, but i know it's a principle of the PurSleep aromatherapy system that one of our members, Sleepguy, markets. perhaps the same principle will apply to what you're doing, but i can't say for sure. i'll ask sleepguy what he thinks.

Just be sure you LIKE the aroma of Olbas Oil because the scents can get in the CPAP and be the very devil to get rid of!!

hi., just wanted to ask a simple question... now that i started wearing the cpap ,and i am getting somewhat used to it and looking forward to it helping me... how long will i have to continue to wear it?
how is that calculated?
i know we are all different... however, do i have to wear this for the rest of my life, or will i feel well enough after a certain amount of time where i won't be needing it anymore?
they tell me there are "no stupid questions"...lol

very natural question. unfortunately, i don't think you'll like the answer: forever, or at least until they come up with a "cure" for sleep apnea. you'll have to wear it every single night of your life. same with all of us. i wouldn't think of it that way though, otherwise it will be too overwhelming. just take it one night at a time.

Is it normal for the titrate to push so much pressure through that it wakes me up at 3.30am like today?

normal, yes. acceptable, no, not if it continues night after night. i'd say monitor it for another day or two and then revisit.

ok, just a word of caution, though: the airway/throat is a very dynamic, ever changing place, and just because you're getting a "set CPAP" doesn't mean that set pressure is going to be the right one for you all the time, or that it's even the right one for you now. it was probably prescribed based on one sleep study based on one night's data.... a good snapshot, yes, but i'd suggest thinking of the pressure you'll need at any given time in your life as more of a moving target than a fixed one. make sense?
