I have a hard time sleeping with the CPAP, but finally stayed on it after trying several types of masks and found one not quite as offensive. I had a sleep study after years of waking up gasping for breath (I get busy) and it showed moderate/severe apnea. It has been six months and since then I have had pneumonia, for the first time, and most recently have developed asthma. Recently, I had an asthma attack while I had the mask on...that was not fun. The doctor said I must have GERD which likely caused the apnea in the first place. I don't know about that. I do know that the CPAP pulls lots of gunk from somewhere and sometimes I wake up because I have to clear it out to be able to breath. I was willing to cope with that, but asthma under a mask? Anyone else ever had to work with that?
I have heard of apnea causing GERD but not the other way around.
