"However, what you suggest is that in addition to a Sleep-Disordered Breathing problem is a Sleep problem, and if you're not sleeping, you can SV all night long and it won't do you any good.  This needs to be addressed by a sleep specialist, preferably with a sub-specialty in behavioral sleep medicine"

This is a very interesting point and shows that sometimes we have to work to find the right specialist to solve our problems.  My usual advice is to use the machine 100% of sleep time, but if you're not getting enough sleep time that wouldn't help.

I have said time and time again that PAP alone is not enough.

Yes, you have, Rock, but it's only beginning to dawn  on me what that means.  I thought I  slept well, but it wasn't really quality sleep.  I woke up frequently during the night and was taking sleeping pills.  I have weaned off the sleeping pills (prescription), but still take 50 mg of benadryl.  I'm scared of not sleeping. I think I'll gradually wean off the benadryl by substituting melatonin and then hopefully, nothing.  Just plenty of activity during the day so I'm going to bed tired. To see what a problem sleep is in America just look on the aisle in the drugstore for sleep aides.  My latest perusal of the shelf showed dream water, another liquid potion to help you relax and sleep after taking energy drinks (no kidding- it said that) and no less than 10 other sleep aids.  People are desperate for a good nights sleep.  I was surprised when a chart in my sleep doctors office promised (or suggested) that CPAP would give a good nights sleep. PAP is not all that's needed. Rock when you have time (which I know is in short supply would you elaborate on what is needed besides PAP for successful therapy.

I will get back to this tonight when I have a break. In essence we need more handholding from the industry and more commitment from the PAP users. I will explain later tonight.
