Noisy Cpap machine and the OptiLife face pillow mask with attached chin strap
I have RemStarPro C-Flex machine and to me it's very noisy. I had to put it on the floor on my bedroom rug with a fire-proof piece of material beneath it. Before I complain about it, is it just me or is anyone else having the same problem? Between finding a good fitting mask and the noise from my machine, I'm not getting a good night's sleep since I first started using the equiptment a month ago.
I thought they were going to bring a number of different masks for me to try on the first time they came out but they only bought one, the one type mask that was recommended from my sleep study, which was a nose mask. We all know how many different types of masks of this type there are. Of course it didn't fit right and I had to order another mask that also didn't fit well.
I just keep calling and asking for a different mask and I will continue to do so until I find one that fits me the way it should. The one I got a couple of days ago, the OptiLife mask with nose pillows fits pretty good but I had to sit and figure it all out by reading the literature that came with the mask. There was supposed to be a nose pillow (one without prongs for each nostril but fits across the whole nose) but that wasn't included.
If it's just me not giving things long enough time to settle in, please feel free to say so. I hate change, especially at night. I can't get a good fitting mask but I think that's the fault of my supplier. I have a small, short face but no one has ever asked me about that when I call and say the lastest mask they sent doesn't fit right. I've discovered that a lot of the masks come in small size, like the Comfort Gel Mask which is just too big for me.
For those looking for a chin strap, I got a face mask with pillows that is a pretty good fit and it has a chin strap attached to the face material. It's called OptiLife.
I hate to be a whiner but I'm getting very frustrated. Is this normal for a person only using the equipment a little over a month or am I just a perfectionist who will never be satisfied?

Rita, your not a whinger, we all go through these teething problems. I use a Resmed Autoset S9 and it is very quiet. When I got my machine I looked for one that was quiet and didn't have lights and a clock etc as I am sensitive to light and sound. I do also use ear plugs. Be careful with the machine on the ground as it can pick up a lot of dust in the filter. Perhaps you could try to contact Remstar and ask them about the noise, maybe it shouldn't be that loud. On the mask it does take time and a lot of trialling, I went through 5 masks before I was satisfied and it still took me a few months to get used to it. There should be some masks that come in XS. I think there is a company that custom makes masks but the would cost a bit.

Thanks Terry. During the time you tried to get used to using the machine you finally decided upon, did you ever NOT use it for a night or so just to get a good night's sleep?

Rita, I don't want to boast but there is not one night that I have not used it since I got it almost a year ago. At the start i was pulling the mask off in the middle of the night but I don't do it anymore and even though I may not sleep all night I have it on for 7-8 hours per night. For me CPAP is not an option, I believe I was not far away from dying if I hadn't been diagnosed (not trying to be to dramatic). I never slept properly my whole life but the last 2-3 years prior to CPAP I was getting 1-2 hours of non quality sleep a night. I was in hospital for 9 days with what was diagnosed as depression but I belive it was sleep deprivation from not sleeping for a week. That's why I encourage people tp continue on with there treatment as I have been there and although I'm not 100%, I am 100% better than I was. Whatever it takes keep going. Sorry I didn't really answer your question, probably the best way is I can't sleep without it. I call my machine 'Silvie', I have a Resmed S9 Autoset and I tell my wife I am going to sleep with Silvie. A year ago I couldn't function properly now I go to the gym most days and have starting jogging again on the treadmill (4 kilomteres most days). I'm not sure if you are on any medication, I have gone off most of mine, but to take Valerian Forte which is a herb that helps me sleep and relaxes me during the night. I also only drink herbal tea's (Camomile) to calm me during the day. Valerian is non adictive and some sort of medication may calm you during the night. Keep us updated.

Terry, do you know of the company that makes custom masks? I have a deviated nostril hump, so the FX pillow will always rub that area. Almost tempted to cut the pillow to shape it to my nose, but worry that the pillow will fold over or rip with the pressure force during the night.
