My doctor's office checked with Blue Cross before I got a home test done and they confirmed that it would pay out for the home sleep study. Now I'm getting a denial of claim letter that says the following:

"The claim for the unattended home portable sleep study cannot be authorized because the patient was able to be studied in a regular sleep laboratory."

Anyone heard of such a thing?

What was the reason for your having the in-home testing rather than an in-lab PSG?
It is truly absurd, since the home test costs Blue Cross a fraction of the cost of a study in a lab.
i went for the in-home sleep test because i read online that it was available, and was a good option for people who didn't want to sleep overnight in a laboratory setting. i did ultimately go in for an overnight sleep test later, when the home test failed a couple of times. the lab sleep test worked fine, and gave me a diagnosis of moderate sleep apnea.

still, like Daniel says, why should they punish me for trying a cheaper alternative to the full overnight sleep study?
