I use cpapplus.com for new supplies, I may be looking for a used updated machine. Not sure yet. You need a prescription so there is some concern I read in getting a used machine set for your settings, some doctors fear liability. Maybe you sign a waiver or make sure you have a doctor/tech willing to do that.
New prices are outrageous.
Was your wife diagnosed with apnea? You can have both apnea and CFS.
I think the pricing, especially of APAP machines is outrageous. It's a fan, some pressure sensors and som software for servo feedback control of the same. Then there's the cost of getting it approved and liability insurance admittedly which will be a big chunk. Once the Chinese start flooding the market with cheap off-brand machines and get hold of the public health services then the big names will have to start selling them at realistic prices and more people can get the treatment they need. Apex and BMC will be the names to look out for in the years to come - Resmed and Philips be warned...
To help respond to your question - the main barrier to cross border export is the agreements that the manufacturers sign with their distributors, in order to "safeguard the patient" (safeguard their profits and control their markets more like). If equipment is designated as prescription only in your country then customs may seize it at point of entry, however there are ways of avoiding this (engineering samples, equipment for repair etc) that can help with moving single items around.
