I am doing the sleep thing in Pueblo, Co. Titrations at 4-7,000" are a trip. It is so beautiful here. My contract is until Sept. I think they are trying to extend it through November. are you going to the Symposium? I think I might since it is only 100 miles away.
I don't remember any specific papers to cite you right now, but I do vaguely remember reading some papers a while back showing that cardiac optimization did help central sleep apnea. I think Dr. Mueller may be a better person to ask.
Seeing you are in Texas,it will be a lot cooler here.I was born and raised here so I like the weather.Right now in the nw part of the state we are having an oil boom so it is very busy.Life is not at a fast pace like big citys .Wes
The other possibiility is that Adam and Eve did not dream .... until after they ate the "apple".
Since most dreams, even the "good ones", are irrational, maybe they are an affliction of mankind's sin. Why would God design us to have irrational dreams? Surely he wants us to be rational?
D.W. Your recipe sounds good, although I don't know what makes up Bocca Vegan patties. I'll let you know how I liked them. I'm sure they have Bocca Vegan patties at the Whole Foods Store here.
Thanks Conn, I have only done a handfull of ASV titrations. I wish that the labs around here shared your thoughts. I have only had 2 interviews since we last talked. The neurology lab gave me an offer. Later they pulled it for some reason. Now they will not return my calls. Oh well I am interviewing with the "St hospitals" this week. Thank the lord for my construction skills.
Wayne, do date my most obese patient is over 500 lbs. with a 21 inch neck. He also had a very small lower jaw. He refused CPAP and did very well on an oral appliance going from a high of AHI of 29 to a low of 18. Most importantly, his O2 levels were greatly elevated with very few serious desats. I have tried to get him to add CPAP to no avail.
It is a myth that oral appliance are not for the super obese. When you are dealing with that situation, you need all the tools at your disposal. Most physicians never look in the mouth to see what the dental configuration is. This drives me crazy. They only have one tool and use it to excess.
Coming out of the cupboard expresses it pretty well. The juxatposition of the term cupboard and the subject matter of the video (which come to think of it maybe I misunderstood) makes more sense when paired with being Vegan. Hope that is going well, by the way. Good for you.
Mary
Thanks, I have put quite a bit of time into both this and my wife's END training. The EKG is my weakest link. By sight I can narrow them down and eventually identify the arrythmia. Without a picture I mix them up more often than I am comfortable with.
Delta= .5-3Hz or anything under 4Hz. At least 20% of an epoch must be Delta to qualify as N3.
Theta= 4-7Hz and are the dominating background in N1. Although they are seen the best in n1 theta waves can be seen in any stage of sleep. The majority of sleep ranges from 3 to 7 hz. This is why sleep waves are are called low amplitude mixed frequency. High ampitude theta waves are sometimes confused for Delta waves.
Alpha=8-13 Hz.
Beta is 13+Hz and will generally be the fastest wave in a sleep study not caused by artifact. Spindles range from 11 to 16Hz dependeing on the reference source.
A K complex does not have a frequency requirement despite having to be at .5 seconds in duration. This would give it a frequency of at least 1 to 2hz.
Sawtooth waves or p waves are seen in rem with more dominance at REM onset.
Lambda or "the readers wave" ranges from 4-6Hz. Mu. These waves are seen better in the occipital regions.
Mu waves range from 7-11Hz and are seen in the Rolandic area. Mu waves are sail like patterns seen in an EEG. Specifically when someone flexes or makes a fist.
Thanks D. W. it had been a while since I had thought about that stuff.
Mary,
I played around with vegetarianism for a while then developed bad allergies to RICE, SOY, Wheat and Citrus. Had a series of Shots and then dove off into Vegan head-on. Went Organic and so far so good. I do stay away from soy and wheat. Rice Milk as done me well. Dropped 30 points on blood pressure and weight is falling off. Not to mention sleeping insanely well!
D. W., congratulations, that's great. Did you go from vegetarian to vegan, or from meat eater straight to vegan? About the allergies, I have a dog that just itched so bad nothing would help. The vet said try nontraditional protein like venison or salmon. I put him on Eukanuba's Naturally Wild- venison, no preservatives, no by products, no fillers, and he does great. Not to compare you to a dog, but when we get off all that artificial stuff and antibiotic filled meat (probably steroids, too) it can really make a difference. I'm gradually making the transition to vegetarian.
I'm really happy for you, off the meds and a handle on the allergies!
I have now pressed on thru, what seemed, impossible trials and tribulations, and now consider myself 100% compliant W / CPAP - at least at night.
My bed chamber is a good area ... no clutter ... yes books - orderly - love 'em ... NO TV. I look forward to going to bed / sleep and I think I am sleeping. Only problem is ... sleep as I might - I don't get restorative sleep.
Well, I believe I have an excellent sleep doctor who recognizes that my problems need fixing. And, while he is going to continue to try to help me with the lack of REM and alpha intrusion, he has spoken with my other doctor - who prescribes my other RX - to arrange for him to prescribe the RX for sleep so that all of my RX will be being prescribed and monitored closely on an on-going basis by one doctor. However, the sleep doctor will not be out of the picture. All 3 of us can, and will, remain in contact re: the RX, sleep / fatigue, ETC.
I am not a passive participant. I need to know why I'm taking an RX, the necessity, the (actual) potential side effects (not the entire PDR listing), plus, importantly, consider the interaction with my other RX. I do as much research as I can to discover whether the newly suggested RX can interfere with sleep and with other RX I'm taking - or if it could be synergistic with other RX I'm taking and increase another RX effect. Then, I can decide whether I'll take the RX - and at what dosage. So, I have a good and active relationship with my doctors - regarding RX and whatever else is involved with my care.
But, I haven’t been able to find hardly any info about lack of REM and related alpha intrusion ... seems quite a mystery ...
Your suggestions are good ones: check out RX, sleep hygiene, and – most importantly – STRESS REDUCTION ! Good thinking !
Well, I'll wrap up here with a big THANK YOU to you. I very much appreciate your thoughts.
