I thought it might be useful to find out what types of problems newbies are having.

Many on the forum did not make the transition without adjustments. If we know what problems you are having we may be able to come up with some solutions that may help your transition a little smoother.

My situation is similar to Karen's. I received my machine about a week ago. The first couple of nights it worked well, but now I am awakening in about 4 hrs feeling really claustrophobic and it appears to be leaking air. So, I get up, adjust it, sleep for an hour or 2 then have just taken it off the last 2 couple of hrs. 4 hours feel like 8 though because at the sleep clinic I woke up 74 an hr.

Am wondering about the chin strap also, but question if that will feel even more cumbersome/claustrophobic? I haven't called back to the clinic for help yet, but plan to do that tomorrow. I do have to admit, tho, I am much much more rested in the morning than I have been the last several months. It also appears I am not craving carbs like I ws before and I feel I will get the 40 lbs off I need. I'm so grateful for the machine, but am having difficulty accepting using it because I see it as almost an embarrassment and have not told my family an very few friends. I, too, welcome any ideas as to how I might make it work better. Feel very appreciative to have found this siite.
Hi. I'm new to CPAP and found this site when searching "trouble adjusting to cpap." I have had my machine and mask for 6 nights now. I have a ResMed DS 150 with a ComfortGel Full Face mask. My problem is pretty much the same as what a couple others have posted. When I first got it, I got blisters on my nose and on my forehead. I've loosened the mask a lot and managed to avoid leaks as long as I stayed on my back. I move a lot in my sleep and generally sleep on my side, so staying on my back has been hard and I get a nasty kink in my neck and shoulders from it. So, I have tried laying on my side and adjusting my mask but I just can't avoid leaks that way. Last night, I just couldn't get comfortable or avoid leaks no matter what I did. I couldn't even stop leaks when I was on my back. On the weekend I slept pretty well, but I took Ambien both Friday and Saturday nights, so I think that kept me from noticing leaks and discomfort as much. I can't take it on work nights though because it makes me feel groggy and drugged through the next day.
Anyway, I'm tired and cranky. I also am bipolar and I think that being overtired is aggravating a depressed period, which is just making this all even more difficult. I will try to get the mask to work again tonight and, if it doesn't, I will call the DME tomorrow and get an appointment to get a mask fitting and see if I am doing something wrong or if I need a different mask. Is a week enough time to have tried this one? Or should I give it a little longer before I go trying another?
i think mask just ike shoes need to be run in before they are comfy

my biggest hurdle is stuffy nose.  I use humidity and I still struggle.   Thanks for your support.
