Is putting Vicks on filter with a Q-Tip not advised?  A member asked the question here:

one thing I do often.. is to use the liquid vicks steam inhaler and using a qtip.. put a dab on my filter.. or just draw a liquid line inside my mask.. it smells so good and opens my nose for the night.. has anyone tried this? I dont suggest putting it in the water.

Tim I worked with a lady once that said at her husband's work place they used tampons to dry parts (but for the life of me can't remember what type of parts as this was 35 years ago). I thought is was ever soooo funny.

99 do you put the lid of the shoebox back on? If so make sure your machine still has plenty of air circulating around it.
I would worry that the unit may over heat if the lid is on it, even if the hose is going through a hole. I would add an additional opening near the air intake if it was me.
again thank you for your interest and it is noted about the overheating aspect something to consider for a future project that i am thinking about
My feeling is that I would not put vicks on the filter. The filter should take dust and dirt out of the air, I don't think it should be used to add vicks to the air don't know that it will harm the machine, but I think if there were another way to do it iI would try that. It's just not something I would personally do.

I had seen this thread last week, so I picked up some of the steam inhaler stuff at Walmart, and last night I put a little in my hot bath--which really helped clear my throat and was very enjoyable as well, plus I didn't smell like menthol afterward, either. At bedtime, I just touched my finger to the rim of the inhaler bottle and then inside the top of my hose..as I didn't want it in my mask, or thru my machine. It smelled great and I felt much better this morning..

Hope it isn't damaging to the hose etc, but I wouldn't think it would cause serious damage as I replace them every 6 months.
While I can't tell my patient "yeah or nay"....I have had some patients tell me that they have actually wiped Vicks on the inside top of their humidifiers with GREAT results...

Sounds like a good idea. Been useing a Breathe Right Nasal Strip. Like the idea of liquid line inside the mask. Thanks for the
tip.
