Hi All,

I just finished night 12 with my CPAP. I thought everything was going well. But there's something strange happening...

When I wake up in the morning, I'm not tired. For years I've gotten up almost as tired as when I went to bed. This is no longer happening.

I'm able to get out of the house before noon.

I'm not falling asleep at 3:00pm or so.

I'm not falling asleep at the dinner table.

I'm not as crabby, Well, maybe a little...

I am getting tired around 10:30pm or so, and going to bed. And sleeping.

But the strangest thing is that I'm dreaming. I'm waking in the morning wih memories of calming, pleasant dreams.

Do you think this has anything to do with the CPAP, and the fact that I'm using it 100%?

:)

Yep, my son used to sleepwalk and still does at times. He has a new baby and one night the baby was crying and he got up to take care of it so wife could sleep. He went in and rolled up a blanket, wrapped the blanket up with another blanket, and tried to feed it a bottle. Went in and told his wife that he couldn't get the baby to eat as it wouldn't take the bottle. All while he was asleep. Needless to say she has always gotten up since. LOL!!

As far as I know he has never driven his car. Although (he will kill me if he knew I was telling this one) he got up and thought he was in the bathroom. Our bathroom door is in my bedroom. I woke up thinking our roof was leaking and it was him urinating all over the clock radio. He wasn't very old when this happened. I have never let him forget it-- LOL!!
Hi Andy--how are you feeling? I was gonna write you today to see if your results are still holding +.

You very well may have had OSA for a long time. I was having sx back in the early '70's!!!!! My husband at the time, and my kids used to tease me about the snorting myself awake deal. I've c/o feeling tired endlessly for many, many years and was treated for everything under the sun with no success. My GRANDKIDS began kidding me about my snoring!!! Despite c/o of ongoing, nearly unmanageable exhaustion, NO MD ever mentioned apnea.

In the past 4 years (since dx with heart disease), it's turned into severe exhaustion--I've always thought I had to retire because of my heart--NOW I truly believe it was because of untreated apnea....last spring '09 it reached critical mass, and I knew there was "something" seriously wrong with me. Again assumed my heart--cardiologist ruled that out and sent me for neuro/sleep testing and I was diagnosed severe OSA.

Lord have mercy....how many people do ALL of us know who have significant sx and refuse to believe they need a sleep study. My oldest son being one, my best friend is another, plus several other people I've spoken with about it. What's UP with that??? Seriously, I don't understand people's refusal to be tested especially when the quality of their life is being affected.....

On a lighter note, check out the Discussion I'm getting ready to post!!

Wow, Susan, that's pretty scary!

My DWS (Driving While Sleeping) episode was more amusing than dangerous. When I was a teenager, I got up early, around 5:00am, and moved my car from the driveway to an adjacent street, then returned to bed.

When I woke up hours later, I looked out in the driveway and didn't see my car. So, I started yelling that my car was stolen, and for someone to call the police. My mother called up and said, "What are you taling about? You moved it yourself, hours ago!"

I used to sleepwalk back then, and do things like remove stuff from the refrigerator and put them on the counter, or walk around outside.

Maybe my sleep problems go way back?

;)
Not to worry, Carol. NO one on SG is gonna rat out your boy!!

Hey Andy,

I was so pleased to read both of your postings. And, this one in particular, is so very poignant. Thank you for sharing your experience with everyone. You deserve so very much for all your efforts to successfully treat your sleep apnea. And I am so pleased for you and your family that you are regaining your health and your life together with them.

My Best,
Renee

Thanks, Susan.

I've been feeling "bad" for so long, I don't recognize "good"!

It felt great today when my young children asked me to "go out and play" with them today. The younger one asked me to come out, and the older one said, "No, daddy doesn't play with us any more." But when I said, "YES! I want to come out with you" they were so excited!

Nice to be "normal"!! ;)
Hello Susan,

You have shared on SG how you searched long and diligently for the cause of your tiredness - no slacker you . . . Unimaginable (at least, I wish it were unimaginable) that it has to take falling asleep while driving for health care professionals to take seriously a patient's tiredness / fatigue as an actual health condition rather than - at best, nothing really wrong and at worst, merely a nuisance complaint. I am glad to read in your recent postings that you are beginning to feel better. Good for you !

Wishing you much continued success !

My Best,
Renee

Isn't it just totally weird how we can have all these episodes while sleeping, including stopping breathing, for God's sake, and not know it??? It unnerves me to no end.

I had a wreck last year because I fell asleep at a completely familiar intersection near my home and drove right into oncoming traffic. Didn't wake up till I got smacked by another car. Jeez......

'Ya won't catch ME without my CPAP ever again.............

Hi Susan,

Yes, still doing well, thanks. Last night was #14, and I had an AI of .6.

HI and AHI still high, though at 6.2 and 6.8. I'm not sure how to get those down, but I'm told if AI is <1, I'm doing OK.

I have no idea how long I'v had OSA, but I'm assuming that it corresponds to my lask of energy and motivation, which has gotten worse over the past five years or so. Luckily I have no other medical issues (yet?) as a result.

I'm just happy to have found this out, and to have gotten the great results I've experienced in the two weeks I've been on CPAP. I'm feeling much better all around.

Sorry you had to find out after other complications. I think that's why it's a great benefit to the "new" peopl like me, to learn of experiences such as yours, and take this OSA seriously.
Hi Renee,

Thanks for the kind words.

Yes, "poignant" is a good description. I've been telling my children (age 9 and 12) that I'm too tired to do almost anything they ask. I've stopped going to the movies with them, because I couldn't see paying $12.00 for a ticket, only to sleep through the entire film!

When my oldest was 3 or 4, I used to go out to the park, run around, and have a good time with her. But that has not happened in a while.

Now, though, I'm at least interested in doing things. And my interest is increasing their interest. So, I raked some leaves for the first time in probably 10 years, and they were both out helping, laughing, and playing along. It's good for me, and good for them too.

Definitely better than having me watch them through my bedroom window!

;)
