Have used my oral sleep apnea device for 3 nights.  It does not stop the problem with periodic air rushing out of mouth.  My only alternative is to resume the mouth taping (which does not totally prevent puffing but my AHI is down to average of 1.5-1.8. Have not found any full face mask that would work on me.  Only the nasal pillows "fit" my face.  So I just wasted $580 on the appliance (glad I did not get the $2.500 one) My hopes had been so high for this. I just feel let down and back down in the dumps.

Sorry to read this Ginny.  I remember feeling this way at the beginning and there's no way I dare tape my mouth shut, as I couldn't physically breathe through my nose before my 2 operations.  Have you tried the Respironics Fit Life?  That one and the Hybrid are the 2 which work best for me.

I have not tried the Fit Life.  I have been hesitant to as I really am a side sleeper and all the other full face masks besides not fitting were not comfortable.  For the 1st time since this all started I am tempted to stop it all and just let nature takes it's course .

I'm a side sleeper too and manage just fine with the Fitlife.  I hope you won't give up as the health risks for the future are worse than an uncomfortable mask.  I do empathise with you though, as I felt the same at first, but losing my undiagnosed mother to a heart attack at the age of 49 convinced me to keep trying.  Good Luck!

Ginny. I felt just the same as you. I tried so many masks and they all leaked. I was on the verge of giving it all up. The last, and final, mask I tried, and still use, is the resmed quattro fx. It took a while but I am now doing quite well. I started off with 34+ apnoeas per hour. Yesterday I went back to clinic and I am down to around 15. I hope to go lower with time. Please don't give up. It really does get easier.

This all started last March and I am getting impatient.  I have 2 Quattro FX's here.  They leaked very badly.  I might have 2-3 good nights a week.  My AHI is now usually less than  with the nasal pillows & tape and I am thinking this is as good as it will get until some other mask or custom made one comes a long.

I think you can get custom made masks but I don't know from where. Maybe someone will come along and tell you where from. I'm sorry you are having so much trouble.

Lovely reading that you're now in a position to encourage others Carolyn, as I know how you yourself struggled at the beginning (me included).  CPAP's not easy for everyone, but when we get it to work it's life-changing!  Been speaking to someone here in the UK today who's desperate for it to work for her little boy or he'll have to have a tracheostomy at 2 years old - bless him!
