hi all-i am here looking for advice from anyone whocan help-my life has been virtually destroyed from my problem with snoring and sleep-it was the start of the breakdown in my marraiage(my wife could no longer sleep with me and we just drifted apart)i havent been able to drive for yrs because of my falling asleep at wheel-(3 accidents)i can never plan anything without thinking how im going to get a nap to keep me going.i am a standing joke in my job because i sleep and snore thru every break.i have almost been sacked for falling asleep during meetings so i dont go to any now.i live with a permanent tiredness.im living in ireland and dont know of any help(if any)i can get-one of my workmates has told me repeatedly that im suffering from sleep apnea but it seems a joke to my doctors when i try to raise the subject-is there anything i can buy over the pharmacy counter that can help?

Hello Pierce.

Cindy already gave you great advice.

I would suggest not trying to raise the subject with your doctor. Tell you doctor (I'd get a new one) that people have witnessed you cease breathing while sleeping and that you would like a Sleep Study with the possibility of CPAP.

Nothing purchased at a pharmacy will help.

Keep us updated and please let me/us know if there is anything else that you need.

No, You'd have more luck Kissing the blarney stone than finding anything over the counter to cure the kind of Sleep Apnea you have. It sounds like you have severe Sleep Apnea. I Have Lots of Family in Ireland. Find a sleep doctor .....It will change your life! Do it Pierce! May you be in Heaven an Hour before the Devil knows you're dead. If You need to go to a clinic and tell them your symptoms. Go to emergency tell them you keep falling to sleep! Where there's a will there's a way mate!
Great advice from everyone else so far. I'm with them. Ditch your current doctor and find one who takes Sleep Apnea seriously.
I agree with the sentiments above. Have you found a sleep doc? Check out http://www.sleepcenters.org/.
