Hi-- I am using a Respironics BiPap, auto, bi-flex that is fully data capable.

Two nights ago I tried the Resmed Activa nose mask, and last night I used my Swift LT for Her nasal pillows. I was curious about the differences in the data from the two nights given that the reported leak rate was not that much different between the two masks. I'm wondering if any of you had guesses/reasons for why the data would be so different, especially the AHI. Both were used for a little over 9 hours:

Resmed Activa Nose Mask:

90% CMH2O 15/13
L/M 29
AHI 8

SWIFT II for her Nasal Pillows:

90% CMH2O 11/7
L/M 27
AHI 5.6

I am new at this, but it seems to me that the Nasal Pillows are getting a better result at a lower pressure. Am I reading this correctly? Also, am guessing that I should work towards a lower AHI than the reported 5.6 on the better night anyway...

Thoughts?

Thanks
Jan

Welll, .... the air pressure is more direct into the nasal passages w/a nasal pillows mask. But one night seldom tells the full story. A week w/each mask might given a more accurate picture. Yes, eventually you should find that an AHI below 5.0 will leave you feeling more rested in the morning. But Rome wasn't built in a day, nor did your sleep problems arrive overnight. Give each ONE change ONE week of results before making another change - whether mask, pressure or whatever. That will give a more accurate picture.
Actually I was pretty happy with my Swift for her nasal pillows but my DME suggested that I try the Activa because I find that the nasal pillows sometimes move around while I am sleeping and that wakes me up. I probably will give the Activa another try, but I might try a different size. The medium that I tried was only moderately comfortable and seemed to be poking me in one of my eyes during my sleep.

I'm wondering whether the size small might work better so I might give that a try. Frankly though, if I can do whatever is necessary on the pillows to get my numbers into a better spot, I would be a happy camper. I find the mask pretty comfortable.

Thanks
Jan
i thought that they are both simular
thinking that whatever mask you had worn the results would have been simular
every night is diffren
so how can mere mortals compare, with great difficulty
their should be a testing and comparison site to really see the diffrences to set up a standards committee so that machine is pitted against machine, masks with masks and also mix and match, to get true results.

you know that rome was not built in a day
i was not on that construction site
