Hi,  I have HYPERTROPHIC CARDIOMYOPATHY,  EG an enlarged septum which has resulted in MITRAL STENOSIS. Can anyone tell me if this could have been caused by my untreated for 40 years SLEEP APNEA.

Not sure what EC stands for. Sleep apnea stresses the heart, particularly the right side with fluid overload. Hypertension and atrial fib have a definite correlation. With hypertension, the heart can hypertrophy, but I have not heard of causing structural changes. Sleep apnea would worsen any of this conditions especially if one has significant oxygen desaturations or even mild desats over decades. What is your doctor's opinion?

EG Latin for "that is" or example

here in the uk

EC means "electrocardiogram"

it is more probable that sleep apnea caused these health problems

e.g. in the US means "for example".  I don't think mitral stenosis would be related to sleep apnea, but that is only a personal opinion.  What does your cardiologist have to say?  I don't have any idea about the hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

Untreated apnea causes heart problems.

Do you know how they pick those "best of the best?" You basically nominate yourself by submitting an application. Then you lobby the other members to vote for you.

I just found that little fact out. I was quite floored.
