I was diagnosed  with sleep apnea back in February of this year. I was already scheduled for sinus surgery in March. I had the surgery and 6 weeks later, started cpap. At that time, my AHI was 62, considered to be quite severe. I had constant struggles trying to adapt to cpap. After trying nearly every mask available at my med supply, I was at my wits end. I kept at it. About 3 weeks ago, I was referred back to my sinus surgeon(he handles my sleep issues), and he scheduled me for another sleep lab. I had it last Wednesday evening, and my AHI was 5. Per my ENT (sinus surgeon), I am now off cpap. The report indicated I have shallow breaths, but never qualified for cpap. This is fantastic, however, the daily morning headaches continue. My O2 was down to 81 at times, and my ENT has now referred me to a neurologist for perhaps, meds for prevention of migranes (I get these darned things every day and not always just in the morning). He also said that oxygen therapy may be appropriate, but that is down the road and depends on the neurologist. Has anyone used O2 for headaches? I am assuming this method would be used during a headache only. Am looking for any ideas on dealing with the headaches and wanted to let others know that surgery can help. I prayed for this to happen, but really did not think the sinus surgery would eliminate the need for cpap. The doctors were never able to tell my what the cause of the sleep apnea was in my case, as everything was normal in the throat and mouth. I can only assume it was the massive scar tissue the surgeon found in my nose. After that was eliminated, and he also built up my nose with a tiny bit of cartilidge from my ear-I no longer need to use nasal strips. The cpap began hurting my lungs/throat area and I was always exhausted, even after using cpap for a good 8 hours a nite. Now I feel great! Except for the headaches. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!
