Does anyone have any feedback on this mask? I am looking for something that is lightweight for a thin woman's face. I have tried many and thus far, have not had much luck. They push down on my face too hard even when I lightly fasten the straps. Any ideas on this one?

I was unable to use this mask and I have a full round face. It seemed as though the sides of the mask are way to large. I take a medium in most full face mask and purchased that size. I didn't try a small. I wouldn't suggest it unless you can actually go in and try it on before buying.
I have a small size. I like it other than the fact it dents into the right cheek area and just plain hurts. I bought a foot blister patch and stuck it under the edge of the mask over the painful area. I don't know, I am going to try again tonite. I woke up every single hour last nite. did you have problems getting used to this whole thing? It's been about 3 months now for me. I am post sinus surgery also-that occurred in March and I started on cpap 6 weeks later, as advised by my surgeon(well actually he wanted me to wait another 6 months or so for total healing). So maybe some of my discomfort is from that. I have another sleep study coming up to determine if the surgery cured or at least helped the apnea problem, and I need a mask that works. I love the nasal masks, but alas, my mouth fills up with air and poofs open, so I have to make a full face work...what are you using now as a mask? I cant handle the Mirage Quattro, and I hear how wonderful it is. It is too big and heavy...any ideas? thank you

I have found that the best full face mask for me is the Fischer and Paykel 431. Not many people like it though.

It takes time to fully adjust wearing something foreign on your face and finding a mask that works for you is important, but can be very expensive.

At this time I am using what is called the Headrest/Aieomed Twilight mask. It is a nasal pillow mask, but has the least amount of facial contact that I have found that works for me. I love that mask and have great results with it.

I used a full face mask probably six months prior to switching to a nasal pillow mask as I was a mouth breather prior to treatment. I was able to train myself to keep my mouth shut.

Have you tried a chin strap? Although many don't find them useful as they can still allow you to open your lips far enough to let air escape. Some have resorted to mouth taping (and before some of you jump on the bandwagon about the dangers the Oracle mask blocks your mouth while providing therapy and so in my opinion mouth taping is equivalent to this). Use a sensitive type -- many have found that the blue painter's tape works great and is more economical. Just make sure to fold a small piece over on itself to provide easy access if needed for quick removal. Others have tried what they call Chin-Ups. These are small adhesive strips placed on the chin area and are supposed to help with mouth leaks although I have no experience with them.

Do you know what machine you are using and your pressure?
I have tried the opti life mask and loved it, until the air filled my mouth and poofed out. I tried taping and the chin straps, and it got to be too much for me. Hence, back on the search for a full face thing. I have a resmed escape II cpap and my pressure is an 8. I have the EPR on 3 and am trying to get an autopap because I believe my mouth fills because I breathe too slow, hold my breath almost and then the air that is flowing in needs somewhere to go, so out it comes thru the mouth. I could be wrong, but nobody can explain why it happens and there HAS to be a reason. I cant even find out what the obstruction or problem is for this apnea stuff. My ENT says my throat and mouth look great and can find no reason why I have this. I had sinus surgery and am hoping the next sleep lab in a month or so reveals an improvement. i would love to get away from all of this. It is just hard for me to understand what the problem is. I'm new to this and still in shock I guess! haha

cheryl, the ResMed Escape is supposed to have EPR (Expiratory Pressure Relief) which gives you a lower pressure when you exhale, ask you medical equipment provider to be sure it's enabled for you, or if you can manage the menus, do it yourself. There should be numbers, EPR 1 ,2 and 3. Find out which one works for you.

Oh I know, I have the EPR and it is set at 3, which is the one that works for me. I have even gotten into how to change the pressure and backed it down one notch to see if that would help-but no it did not. Now the biggest problem is the mask. Apparently I take it off in the middle of the nite and don't know it. This one I have has made a huge sore on the bridge of my nose. It is awful. So far, just no luck in this whole thing...thanks for your help though. I am hoping to get an autopap and see if that will help. But thats down the line after my next sleep lab next month some time, I assume-all has to be scheduled. What type of mask do you use? or are you a lucky one who can use a nasal type?

The respironics is definately not a light weight mask. I personally like the Resmed Quattro II. Not everyone does though. Fisher Paykel make the lightest masks. I am not particularly fond of their FFM because they tend to leak more than others in my experience. That is just my opinion though. I have also found that each mask comes with it's own unique problems. Finding one you can work with can sometimes take a while.

how did you train yourself to not mouth breathe? I dont naturally mouth breathe, its the air that fills up in mymouth and poofs out my cheeks and out goes the air and it just keeps happening. I would do well with the nasal type, and tried taping, chin straps and got nowhere, as it still forced my mouth open each time...how did you do it?

I wear a full face mask so mouth breathing is not a problem. I believe sleepcarol gave you some good suggestions, like the painters tape.
