Yesterday I acquired the ResMed S8 Escape System with the Rescam Data Card function but I'm unsure of how to use it.  When first inserting it, it's copied and then the requests appears on the screen indicating it's to be removed.  My question is is it supposed to be inserted nightly to get that night's reading.  Because I was not sure what to do, I did insert it again but does that mean I've lost the data from the previous night?  This card is to be sent back  after a month to the place providing the machines.  Today being a holiday I'm not able to access their office.  Thanks.

I have the ResMed S9 Escape Auto and my data card was alreadyin it when I got it. They never said anything about removing it unless it is going to be read by I guess the Doctor or the therapist or whoever reads it. I feel kind of left in the dark about some of these things. I was not told how to retrieve my data and the manual does not tell me either.

me thereapist took my card for my s8 and did not bother to return it

as it only collects hours used and no other usuful data functions of any real value

The Resmed S8 Escape is NOT fully data capable. It can only report usage compliance. It is not necessary to insert the S8 data card in the S8 Escape until you are ready to do the download.

Judy, in response to Maryann's frustration:

I asked for the S9 at my last appt and was told it has a lot of defects. Kind of like buying a new model car the first year it comes out. My DME guy did not recommend it and the Doctor said I have what he needs (S8) to follow my therapy. I'm thinking they're both full of it. The S8 only records hours used and has no other data, how am I supposed to know how I am progressing in my therapy?? What about all the other data that is supposed to be more important than hours used? Do only moderate to severe Apnea patients get an S9 ?

the defect is the cost or embarrisment that the DME or Doctor to pay out to be trained on them

First thing tomorrow call your insurance company and ask them what local DME CPAP providers they are contracted with. Hopefully you will have the option of several, or at least more than just this one. If you do have other options take this S8 Escape back to this DME provider and tell them the Escape is NOT acceptable. Request an S8 Elite or S8 AutoSet. Either of these PAPs are GOOD, fully data capable CPAPs. I was started on an Elite and used it for 18 months before I was switched to a bi-level. I bought the AutoSet as a backup unit while still on the Eite and I can vouch for both PAPs. I got excellent therapy, they were sturdy, dependable PAPs. I liked them so much I insisted on a Resmed VPAP Auto (VPAP is Resmed's proprietary name for the bi-levels) when I was swtiched to a bi-level.

The S8 series are fine machines.  You do need a data capable machine so hopefully the DME will swith it out for you.  I have read of a lot of bugs with the S9s, though not everyone has problems.

Good luck, keep usposted.

This whole S8/S9 thing has me steamed.

In my practice of veterinary medicine, we do what is best for the patient, not our bottom line. Veterinarians follow a different set of rules than human doctors. They also are not under the thumb of insurance companies. We do not have quotas to meet, get kickbacks from our suppliers or refuse treatment if someone is unable to pay. We give the client ALL options for treatment of their pet not just the ones that will make us the most money. I guess that is why you will never see a Veterinarian driving a Mercedes or vacationing on his yacht. Just sayin'........

Ummm, you are describing GOOD veterinarians. I bred and showed dogs for some 30 years and I worked for our local humane society as well. Not all veterinarians are as caring and learned as they would like us to believe. Thank you for being one of the good ones.

You can also inquire about the fully data capable (Respironics) PR SystemOne Pro w/C-Flex and PR SystemOne Auto w/A-Flex. They are the equivalent of the Resmed S9 Elite and Resmed S9 AutoSet. Never accept a (Respironics) PR model w/Plus in the name and never accept a Resmed w/Escape in the name. They are bare-bone, entry level, usage data capable only.

Judy, thanks for the additional info and the compliment.

I am proud to say that my clinic is an AAHA accredited hospital and we have been in business 52 years. I do agree that not all Vets are good Vets. Most of the complaints we hear from new clients pertains to poor care, the doctor's lack of compassion, or running endless tests with no diagnosis. With the economy the way it is you have got to keep every client that walks through your door. I think we do a fine job in providing friendly, personal service with excellent patient care. I would not work there if it were any other way. I know some human doctors could care less, for every one person that leaves another 10 will be taking their place. Big difference.

I will be making a phone call tomorrow, I'll keep you posted. Thanks again.
